Intro! My page is a lot more enjoyable if you hide the contents![edit]

Hello, I'm Gabagooblin! I love music! Some of my favorite bands (besides TMBG) are The Weakerthans, The Beatles, Electric Light Orchestra, Mono Puff, The Doors, Journey, Billy Joel, Carole King, Bob Dylan, Logan Whitehurst & The Junior Science Club, Moxy Fruvous, The Talking Heads, Weezer, Green Day, Operation Ivy, Propagandhi, Pennywise, Metallica, Third Eye Blind, Death Cab For Cutie, and The Postal Service! I like The Office, Walker Texas Ranger, John Flansburgh, the color green, the number fifty-seven, video games, skateboarding and giraffes. My favorite thing to do is play guitar. My favorite thing to eat is bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches. I am the coolest person I know.

Note: My user boxes are lying to you. I could never choose a favorite album, let alone a song or video. My favorite things - along with my user boxes - change almost every day.

How I Got Into TMBG[edit]

Ever since I started listening to music I've shared it with my friends, one of which got into music too. We would exchange music every day. One day, he sent Birdhouse In Your Soul to me. This must've been in early 2024 because I remember I had only been a fan for a few months when Lazy was released. Anyways, Birdhouse freaked me out, but in a cool way I guess cause I was totally hooked. They Might Be Giants was unlike anything I'd seen or heard, They were so ironically awesome. Their songs were flat out strange and seemed so fun. They were weird, and I loved that. In Gigantic, Ira Glass said something along the lines of, "I think the reason they attract an audience of the age of twelve to fourteen is that there's a cleverness to the songs that just kills you when you're that age. You just can't believe that it could be so clever." He really described it to a Miscellaneous T, that's exactly how I felt.

About My Collection[edit]

I have two TMBG albums. I'd love to get more but unfortunately I'm broke and TMBG isn't very common in used music shops. The first TMBG album I bought was a 1986 copy of Pink that I found when I went to House of Guitars in Rochester, New York during their 60th anniversary celebration. I paid $49.98 for that dumb record, way too much for it skipping on Puppet Head and Don't Let's Start. But I totally recommend that place if you're ever around. The second album I bought was The World Is To Dig, I pre-ordered it on CD. The non-music TMBG stuff I have are the Science Is Real t-shirt in black and this awesome poster.

Concerts I've Been To[edit]

The first concert I ever went to was Journey during their freedom tour in 2024. ToTo opened for them, it was really cool. The second concert I went to was a Bon Jovi tribute band called Don Jovi. (The frontman's name was Don.) My grandma and I were in the nosebleeds, it was so much fun. The third concert I went to was Paul McCartney on the Got Back tour. It was seriously the best, I cried a ton. I don't know if I'll ever be as happy as I was that day again in my entire life. I haven't seen TMBG yet, but I plan to someday. I was hoping to see them on The Bigger Show Tour but unfortunately I'm underage. I guess I'm okay with that though because I genuinely cannot comprehend that they actually exist. Seeing them in real life might give me a heart attack or a stroke or something.

I Play Instruments![edit]

I picked up guitar the same year I started listening to TMBG. My dad took me to Guitar Center for my twelfth birthday and bought me a blue Epiphone Les Paul Special starter pack or whatever it's called. It came with a crappy amp and a travel bag. It was so awesome. I chose a Les Paul shape because I wanted to be like Jeff Lynne. At that point I'd been playing the flute for about two years, so it wasn't all that hard to start another instrument. I've become pretty alright for being self taught. A year after starting guitar, my parents got me an ocean turquoise Fender strat for Christmas. I chose that one because it reminded me a bit of Rivers Cuomo's guitar. I got a midnight blue Fender precision bass for my fourteenth birthday, which I've gotten pretty good at. I started teaching myself to play keyboard recently, which I'm decent at. I'm saving up for an accordion next! My dream is to one day be in a totally rocking band, I pray to the rock gods every day to send me totally rocking band mates.

(Funny?) Story[edit]

I'm in eighth grade. On Thursdays in homeroom we have music appreciation where a student can recommend a song to have the class listen to. I'm pretty close with the teacher of that class, we share a lot of the same taste in music. He likes TMBG so I recommended that he play some for music appreciation. I asked for Don't Let's Start because that's basically my go-to song and I thought people might like it, and he decided he'll play Istanbul too since that's his favorite. He pulled up Don't Let's Start on Youtube, and to my shock and horror, he played the music video on the board for everyone to see. I love that video with all of my heart, but man was I clowned on. TMBG is not for everyone; people didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I'd hoped. But the teacher and I were vibing so it was okay. Then he played the Istanbul music video and people thought that was weird too but it wasn't as bad. Overall it was pretty fun, I would recommend it.

My Favorite Songs Off of Each Album (That I've Bothered To Listen To):[edit]

There's probably a much more efficient way to do this but I'm too lazy to figure it out

1985 Demo Tape[edit]

  • 1. Hell Hotel I'm so upset this was never put on a studio album
  • 2. You'll Miss Me If a lost video recording of them performing this in the early 80s doesn't surface before I'm gone my life will be incomplete
  • 3. Become A Robot

Pink[edit]

  • 1. Don't Let's Start Once I was at Five Guys with my family and we were all eating and this song came on the radio and it made me so happy I started crying
  • 2. Put Your Hand Inside The Puppet Head As soon as I watched this music video I was cursed and now I can only dance like Them
  • 3. Alienation's For The Rich I do not have a son, I am not an alcoholic, nor am I even old enough to get a job, but I relate to this song on a very deep level
  • 3. Literally this entire album except for Toddler Hiway and also that one part in Everything Right Is Wrong Again when it slows down and there's a ton of reverb on the vocals

Lincoln[edit]

Flood[edit]

Miscellaneous T[edit]

Apollo 18[edit]

John Henry[edit]

I really really love this album, Linnell is such a genius

Unsupervised[edit]

If you say this is your favorite Mono Puff album we all know you're lying

Factory Showroom[edit]

It's Fun To Steal[edit]

I'm not going to bother trying to explain how much I love this album

Severe Tire Damage[edit]

State Songs[edit]

The vibe that Linnell is able to achieve with the keyboard in Iowa, West Virginia, and Idaho is so insanely good it's so funky and cool it makes me dance every time

Mink Car[edit]

This whole album is underrated tbh

The Spine[edit]

The Else[edit]

Join Us[edit]

  • 1. The Lady And The Tiger
  • 2. Cloisonné Minecraft is exploding
  • 3. When Will You Die I sent this song to a girl I hate and she told her parents and I ended up getting in trouble. No regrets.
  • 4. You Probably Get That A Lot
  • 5. In Fact I love this song so much my heart swells up every time I listen to it. When Flans says "a bunch" its so funny to me I adore him
  • 6. Spoiler Alert This song is one of the best examples of what incredible songwriters The Johns are
  • 7. Never Knew Love
  • 8. 2082 This song is so fascinating, Linnell is such an extrordinary songwriter
  • 9. Celebration I love this song but the part with the oh's makes me cringe so bad, he could've thought of anything else to put there and it would've been so much better

I had so much trouble putting these songs in an order and choosing which ones to leave out, this took me forever. This whole album so so so good
