Hello, I'm Gabagooblin! I love music! I surf around here fairly often, mainly when I'm supposed to be doing schoolwork. Some of my favorite bands (besides TMBG, of course) are The Beatles, The Doors, Electric Light Orchestra, Mono Puff, The Weakerthans, The Get Up Kids, Metallica, and a bunch of other stuff I'm too lazy to list. I also like the color green, the number fifty-seven, video games, skateboarding, dirt bikes, and giraffes. I am the coolest person I know.
Note: My page is a lot more enjoyable if you hide the contents up there. I need to figure out a better way to organize this stuff. I do apologize, as that probably won't be happening any time soon.
How I Got Into TMBG[edit]
It's really simple. One day, my friend sent me Birdhouse In Your Soul. It freaked me out, but in a cool way I guess cause I was totally hooked. They were weird, and I loved that. In Gigantic, Ira Glass said something along the lines of, "I think the reason they attract an audience of the age of twelve to fourteen is that there's a cleverness to the songs that just kills you when you're that age. You just can't believe that it could be so clever." He really described it to a Miscellaneous T, that's exactly how I felt. Now, if I magically lose interest in TMBG at 15, we're gonna have a real problem. Cause I'm seeing Them December 30th, two days after my birthday!
About My Collection[edit]
I'm a pretty avid music collector. The first album I ever got was Out of the Blue by Electric Light Orchestra on vinyl. If I had never heard Mr Blue Sky on Guardians of the Galaxy, I think it's safe to say I would never have formed an interest in music at all. That's a pretty scary thought. Anyways, the first TMBG album I bought was a 1986 copy of Pink that I found at House of Guitars in Rochester, New York. Really cool place. I paid $49.98 for that record, which is way too much for it skipping on Puppet Head and Don't Let's Start. But whatever, whatever you I guess. The second album I got was The World Is To Dig, I pre-ordered it on CD. I'd love to get more music but unfortunately I'm broke and TMBG isn't very common in used music shops. The non-music TMBG stuff I have are the Science Is Real t-shirt in black and this awesome poster, which is my most prized possession.
(Funny?) Story[edit]
In eighth grade we would have music appreciation where a student could recommend a song to have the class listen to. I was pretty close with the teacher of that class and he liked TMBG too so I asked him to play some. I requested Don't Let's Start because that's basically my go-to song, and he decided he'd play Istanbul too since that was his favorite. He pulled up Don't Let's Start on Youtube, and to my shock and horror, he played the music video for everyone to see. I love that video with all of my heart, but man was I clowned on. TMBG is not for everyone; people didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I'd hoped. But the teacher and I were vibing so it was okay. Then he played the Istanbul video and people thought that was weird too. But it was a good time.
