The They Might Be Giants Podcast is the band's official audio podcast, with occasional video editions, featuring rarities, demos, and previously released studio tracks from TMBG, and occasionally songs and poems from other artists. John Flansburgh had first announced that the band was putting the finishing touches on the first episode of a brand new official podcast in a December 2005 newsletter. A segment from the first episode, "Turtle Songs Of North America", was made available for download on the Free Tunes page on tmbg.com before the actual podcast was released. New episodes of the podcast have continued to be released (with some irregularity), and in 2012, from March 27 to May 21, the band issued an audio podcast every Tuesday and a video podcast every Friday. Since then, the podcast has gone back to its irregular schedule.

The podcast was announced on TMBG.com thusly:

"They Might Be Giants' very first podcast is available right now right here. This first episode is approximately 20 minutes long and features a number of exclusive recordings and some unusual tracks we suspect you'll find interesting. The host is the Duke of Dead Air- Cecil Portesque- broadcasting from an undisclosed, very rainy location. Future podcasts are already in the works. Please check it out, and we sincerely invite you to hip as many people you know about this show- especially you blogtopianists out there."

They later added some more information:

"WHAT MANY PEOPLE STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND ABOUT THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS' PODCASTS...

1a. You don't need an iPod
1b. You can download these programs to any computer and listen to them through any MP3-playing device.
1c. All you need is an iTunes-like program installed your computer, which is a free download.
2a. They Might Be Giants podcast is also entirely free.
2b. Subscribers can expect a new podcast about once a month.

Every month or so They Might Be Giants creates a podcast - really a radio special - that includes exclusive new material, unusual songs from the vaults and other unique features we haven't even thought up yet. Hosted by public radio's beloved Cecil Portesque, the program's producer and archivist is Julian Dufy."
