Description
Emails with downloads of the album came with this intro:
Recorded live over the past couple of years, this album documents the expanded 8-piece band finding John Linnell, John Flansburgh, Danny Weinkauf, Dan Miller, and Marty Beller joined by the majestic horns of Stan Harrison, Mark Pender, and Dan Levine.
The album's artwork was designed by Rolf Conant and Elizabeth Connor and uses a 1764 woodcut illustration of the Beast of Gévaudan by an unknown French artist[1] for the front cover. The back cover uses Sea monsters off Norway[2], while the inner sleeve artwork uses Monstrous sea creatures[3], which were both illustrated circa. 1555 by Swedish writer and cartographer Olaus Magnus.
Most shows in 2022 and 2023 were part of the Flood anniversary tour, in which the band performed every song on the Flood album. Beast of Horns entirely ignores that aspect of the tour and doesn't feature a single song from Flood.
Similar to certain projects like The Escape Team and My Murdered Remains, the album is not available on streaming, except for a four-song sampler.
New England-based record store chain Newbury Comics bundled an autographed postcard with CD purchases of the album, which includes a QR code to download a recording of "Metal Detector" performed on October 25, 2015.[4]
