Orff Intro
 +
 +
Hi Antgeth, thank you very much for tidying up my wikifying of TMBG’s recent Melbourne shows (and I was able to swiftly identify the only song I was unfamiliar with, so both nights should be complete). On both nights I wrote down the setlist as they played (literally writing everything down in a spiral notebook), so I can confirm that TMBG’s own setlist for Saturday is not a completely accurate record what they played; the setlist has End (End of the Tour) as the final encore, but they definitely played Museum of Idiots instead, to give Mark Pender another opportunity to display some trumpet brilliance.
 +
 +
I have a really pedantic question about the Orff Intro, which as played on Friday night consisted of the last 25 bars of O fortuna from Orff’s cantata Carmina Burana. The wiki claims this is instrumental (perhaps because the identity of the chorus and orchestra being sampled are unknown), but there most definitely are lyrics being sung, and some TMBG fans are sufficiently nerdy enough to be able to sing them from memory – as several friends and I did on Friday night! The last 25 bars in the quotation used by TMBG have this text:
 +
<code>Hac in hora
 +
sine mora
 +
corde pulsum tangite;
 +
 +
Quod per sortem
 +
sternit fortem
 +
mecum omnes plangite!</code>
 +

Also, I seem to have trouble editing pages with lots of MediaWiki exceptions all over the place… Is this normal? Cheers, I've Got A <span style="color:#cc0000;">Fang</span> @ me 16:33, 5 March 2019 (EST)

Is it true that the melodica on Dog is just samples?  Is the Credits tab wrong on that song?  Also, is Wikipedia wrong to list Linnell as a melodica player? --Nehushtan (talk) 10:31, 27 August 2019 (EDT)
 +
:well, seeing as how the piano is confirmed to be digital, and the melodica in the song also makes heavy use of microtones, i think it's safe to assume that linnell wasn't sitting there filing melodica reeds until late into the night.  i can't personally think of a time in which he has played melodica, though that doesn't mean he hasn't.  perhaps the hive mind knows more.  -- 12:06, 27 August 2019 (EDT)

IFC Songs
 +
 +
What's the reasoning behind disallowing entries for IFC-exclusive songs (I notice that you deleted the page for CF)? Without any links to listen/download, I don't see how it's different than cataloguing any other rarity. If someone has a penchant to pirate songs, they'll find a way no matter how "secret" a song is supposed to be. This is meant to be a complete documentation of the body of work of TMBG, not an exclusive club. Acknowledging the songs' existence doesn't seem to break any rules. It's a glaring blank spot in an otherwise comprehensive wiki - the releases and their tracks are listed on Discogs (and aren't going to be taken down), I don't see how this would be any different.
 +
 +
I notice in your collection page that you own the 2011 EP, so I can't help but think this is some sort of desire to keep these tracks exclusive to people like yourself who were fortunate enough to be aware of the band and able to join the IFC at the time. The Thunderbird demo from the definitely-not-supposed-to-be-released-to-the-public Non LP Tracks CD is catalogued here - what exactly is the difference, other than the fact that some people paid some money to get the IFC tracks vs. an unauthorized leak? If the band themselves hasn't specifically reached out against cataloging these songs (please point me to information otherwise if it exists), it strikes me as extremely petty.

Hey, Ant, I've already posted something on User:CapitalQ's page about this, but since you seem to be the designated "deleter", if you will, I wanted to post this here, too: to consolidate song themes, I've combined Spines (Theme), Skulls, and Skeletons into one page called Bones, whilst also adding a few other things relating to bones. In longer terms, the 3 songs pages I consolidated are pretty much paperweights at this point, and there's no reason to keep them around, since there's just a better version that encapsulates the otherwise pretty small selection between these various bone-related entities. In shorter terms, it would be greatly appreciated if you deleted these pages. Thank you. --You&#38;Me!! (talk) 07:27, 2 November 2022 (EDT)

New User Questions
 +
 +
Hey Ant!  I'm new to the wiki as a user and have a couple questions for whomever can best help.  I'm sure you and Jon have a lot on your plates.
 +
# When I set things up last week, the email verification link was received but failed to work and said it was likely expired... though I checked it just as it was sent and several times since.  What do I need to do to remedy this (and is it a real issue if I'm checking back on the wiki and my talk page for updates with any fair regularity?)
 +
#  It looks (to my untrained eyes) that the most recently edited taglines aren't being archived as they're bumped off.  Not sure if that's a concern/of concern.
 +
#  Is there anything y'all would appreciate extra attention or work on?  I'm sure there are a lot of folks here for their own satisfaction, but if there's anything I can do in service to the wiki itself, let me know.  I'm not a programmer and I have only a bit of prior experience in wiki editing; but I write and edit professionally in the education and museum industries and I try to be a quick learner.  I'm usually on here reading and puttering about several hours a week anyway.

:howdy. i believe email verification is currently down. there are a number of things currently needing fixing around here that only brad can access and alas he's on a hiatus. this includes many of TMBaB's functions — including tagline archiving. with regards to helping, there aren't any specific projects that are plug-and-play. that said, personally my largest interest right now is a massive overhaul of song themes; a lot of theme pages are not worth noting, other things that are worth noting don't have pages, and many other themes should be reworked and reorganised. (just as an example, i think we ought to have fewer, broader theme pages and then list the songs by subcategory, rather than the default "main theme"/"briefly mentioned" scheme which is overused). of course, this is a really big project, and one that i have a lot of opinions on, but i'm personally not able to work on it because of a bunch of Life things i'm dealing with right now — maybe, maybe, later this year.  but feel free to acquaint yourself with the various theme pages and brainstorm on that. if you have any further questions i'm happy to answer them; i'm also on our irc.  -- 22:27, 13 May 2023 (EDT)

Rubaiyat (Elektra's 40th Anniversary) and other oddities
 +
 +
I have a few possible edits but I don't feel confident in making them myself.
 +
Also, I tried to include URL links for most of this stuff in this post but the wiki won't let me post links because I haven't done enough (any) editing.
 +
 +
I believe the proper title of the compilation uses accented characters like this: Rubáiyát
 +
 +
There was a 4CD promotional version available that's mentioned on the current TMBW page but the complete track listing is available on Discogs if needed.
 +
Just go to discogs and add this to the URL "/release/2336881-Various-Rubáiyát-Elektras-40th-Anniversary"
 +
 +
There's also a 1CD promotional sampler version that also includes the same TMBG track. It's called "Selections From Rubáiyát (Elektra's 40th Anniversary)". More info and track listing on Discogs. Just add this to the discogs URL: "/release/1837953-Various-Selections-From-Rubáiyát-Elektras-40th-Anniversary"
 +
 +
I actually own both the 4CD promo version of Rubáiyát and the 1 CD Rubáiyát promo sampler if you need more info or better cover scans or anything like that.
 +
 +
"Time for a Change" (on the TMBG wiki) is not a soundtrack.
 +
It's a promotional sampler from Bar/None Records.  On the cover and spine it says: "BAR/NONE SAMPLER # TWO"
 +
The CD catalog number on the spine, back cover and printed on the CD is "7 72621-2".  However, the CD runout shows "72621-2"
 +
 +
Not sure how pedantic you want to be about compilations but I just wanted to pass along this info just in case.
 +
 +
Finally, I don't know how much anyone cares about other artists covering TMBG but I have a CD from 1992 from an a capella group called "Mixed Company" who did a cover of "Particle Man".  The CD catalog number is MC03CD.  It's an actual pressed CD (not a CD-R) but it looks self published/distributed.  They're out of Stanford University and they appear to be calling themselves "Stanford Mixed Company" now.
 +
The track is on Spotify.  Just search for Stanford Mixed Company Particle Man
 +
Again, I can provide more info if needed.
 +
:in order:
 +
:*yes, it should be moved. that shouldn't be too much trouble.
 +
:*it's probably worth having the other two versions' tracklistings, although i think we can keep them on the same page.
 +
:*you're right, it's not a soundtrack, i'm not sure how that ended up that way.
 +
:*we don't typically keep track of covers of tmbg songs by other artists. it's a fuzzy area that depends on the prominence of the covering artist.

Chiptunes[edit]

Hey! I always search the internet for 8bit covers of TMBG songs, but they're hard to come by. I made a version of "The End of the Tour" that actually ended up being in two separate episodes of Theynow (he didn't realize it had already been used once), and I have it posted on Myspace, here, though I don't really check my profile all that often; Myspace is dying out. Other TMBG songs I've made: partial covers of Monsters of Mud, Yeh Yeh, The Bells Are Ringing, and Doctor Worm. I usually get about halfway through and then realize it's either A) Too difficult to finish, or B) Lose interest. The End of the Tour is the only song I've actually completed from beginning to end. I use Famitracker and Milkytracker. --Mosesofthecows 05:44, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Update I know it doesn't really matter all that much, but I realized today that if you want to hear more of these, I've put a lot more of them up on 8bit Collective, over here in case you're still interested.

Hey, Antgeth. I don't know much about TMBW's categories-- probably 'cause the search functionality is a bit nebulous here. Why did you upload that new image for WDTSS EP? I see it's less than half the size, but frankly, the compression makes it looks bad. The edges of the guy are worse and some of the lines aren't full, and the letters don't look as good. I didn't think you'd sacrifice that much for file size. -- DidgeGuy (आ ज) 12:48, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

basically, i uploaded it, because, for instance, the yellow, is supposed to be one solid colour. same with the white, and the black. i was in a bit of a rush when i did it, and i agree the letters and the guy don't look superb (see this is why it's good when people care), but i don't think the edges are an issue. they're a bit sharper, but not super-jaggedy. also, in this case, the "compression" is not the issue. anyway, i'll redo it a bit slower sometime today. --ant 20:26, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Merge "When The Lights Come On" / "...Light Comes On" duplicate ratings?[edit]

Hello! I've posted this on the talk pages of the other admins as well, because (while not the biggest problem in the world), it's enough of a problem for it to be problematic. There are two duplicate entries for the same song, "When The Lights Come On", on the ratings leaderboard, caused by the page title changing from the former song title of "When The Light Comes On". Some people rated the song before the page title changed to the correct title, so now the exact same song appears twice on the leaderboard (once at #2 and once at #88). Is there any way you can transfer / delete the ratings of the incorrect duplicate "Light Comes" version and add them to the correct "Lights Come" version? Like, this would be the difference between the song being #2 on the leaderboard and #40-ish on the leaderboard. Thanks so much for your help; we really appreciate it! there isn't any specific way of protecting a page in such a way, but that is an extremely uncommon occurrence, so it can be dealt with on a case by case basis. i've left a note for that person asking that they refrain from doing that in the future. sorry about that, and welcome to the wiki! --ant 18:31, 8 January 2019 (EST)

Orff Intro[edit]

I have a really pedantic question about the Orff Intro, which as played on Friday night consisted of the last 25 bars of O fortuna from Orff’s cantata Carmina Burana. The wiki claims this is instrumental (perhaps because the identity of the chorus and orchestra being sampled are unknown), but there most definitely are lyrics being sung, and some TMBG fans are sufficiently nerdy enough to be able to sing them from memory – as several friends and I did on Friday night! The last 25 bars in the quotation used by TMBG have this text: Hac in hora sine mora corde pulsum tangite;

Quod per sortem sternit fortem mecum omnes plangite!

Also, I seem to have trouble editing pages with lots of MediaWiki exceptions all over the place… Is this normal? Cheers, I've Got A Fang @ me 16:33, 5 March 2019 (EST)

Linnell & melodica[edit]

well, seeing as how the piano is confirmed to be digital, and the melodica in the song also makes heavy use of microtones, i think it's safe to assume that linnell wasn't sitting there filing melodica reeds until late into the night. i can't personally think of a time in which he has played melodica, though that doesn't mean he hasn't. perhaps the hive mind knows more. --ant 12:06, 27 August 2019 (EDT)

IFC Songs[edit]

--Yomoneyboat (talk) 12:46, 23 March 2020 (EDT)

New User Questions[edit]

Hey Ant! I'm new to the wiki as a user and have a couple questions for whomever can best help. I'm sure you and Jon have a lot on your plates.

 1. When I set things up last week, the email verification link was received but failed to work and said it was likely expired... though I checked it just as it was sent and several times since. What do I need to do to remedy this (and is it a real issue if I'm checking back on the wiki and my talk page for updates with any fair regularity?)
 2. It looks (to my untrained eyes) that the most recently edited taglines aren't being archived as they're bumped off. Not sure if that's a concern/of concern.
 3. Is there anything y'all would appreciate extra attention or work on? I'm sure there are a lot of folks here for their own satisfaction, but if there's anything I can do in service to the wiki itself, let me know. I'm not a programmer and I have only a bit of prior experience in wiki editing; but I write and edit professionally in the education and museum industries and I try to be a quick learner. I'm usually on here reading and puttering about several hours a week anyway.

With gratitude, --MincedOaths (talk) 13:57, 13 May 2023 (EDT)

howdy. i believe email verification is currently down. there are a number of things currently needing fixing around here that only brad can access and alas he's on a hiatus. this includes many of TMBaB's functions — including tagline archiving. with regards to helping, there aren't any specific projects that are plug-and-play. that said, personally my largest interest right now is a massive overhaul of song themes; a lot of theme pages are not worth noting, other things that are worth noting don't have pages, and many other themes should be reworked and reorganised. --ant 22:27, 13 May 2023 (EDT)
I hear you on all of this, and empathize. It's almost like our lives are beyond full and the world's a tinderbox... yep. Meanwhile, I will try to throw some brainpower at the Themes problem in my own distracted time, and familiarise myself with the IRC. Deleting 1989-08-28 Page[edit]

Since we now know that the bootleg for 1989-08-28 was actually from 1989-02-28, should the 1989-08-28 page be deleted to prevent confusion with the "Total Known Performances" section? - Great567

Deleting 1988-12-31 Page?[edit]

According to Batwho, the 1988-12-31 show apparently didn't happen. Should the page be deleted to prevent confusion with the "Total Known Performances" section? - Great567

Yes, it should. TitanicFog (talk) 17:13, 30 July 2024 (EDT)

Rubaiyat (Elektra's 40th Anniversary) and other oddities[edit]

I have a few possible edits but I don't feel confident in making them myself. Also, I tried to include URL links for most of this stuff in this post but the wiki won't let me post links because I haven't done enough (any) editing.

I believe the proper title of the compilation uses accented characters like this: Rubáiyát

There was a 4CD promotional version available that's mentioned on the current TMBW page but the complete track listing is available on Discogs if needed. Just go to discogs and add this to the URL "/release/2336881-Various-Rubáiyát-Elektras-40th-Anniversary"

I actually own both the 4CD promo version of Rubáiyát and the 1 CD Rubáiyát promo sampler if you need more info or better cover scans or anything like that.

"Time for a Change" (on the TMBG wiki) is not a soundtrack. It's a promotional sampler from Bar/None Records. On the cover and spine it says: "BAR/NONE SAMPLER # TWO" The CD catalog number on the spine, back cover and printed on the CD is "7 72621-2". However, the CD runout shows "72621-2"

Not sure how pedantic you want to be about compilations but I just wanted to pass along this info just in case.

The track is on Spotify. Just search for Stanford Mixed Company Particle Man Again, I can provide more info if needed.

in order:
 • yes, it should be moved. that shouldn't be too much trouble.
 • it's probably worth having the other two versions' tracklistings, although i think we can keep them on the same page.
 • you're right, it's not a soundtrack, i'm not sure how that ended up that way.
 • we don't typically keep track of covers of tmbg songs by other artists. it's a fuzzy area that depends on the prominence of the covering artist.

Deleting 1994-10-27b Page?[edit]

According to Valerie, the 1994-10-27b show apparently didn't happen. Should the page be deleted to prevent confusion with the "Total Known Performances" section? - Great567

All being taken care of, Valerie has been keeping a list to work from on the TMBW Discord! -CapitalQtalk ♪ 21:29, 18 March 2025 (EDT)
