What about stuff like "this user plays [instrument]" or "this user's favourite TMBG video is [whatever]"? Whirrrlwind

How about more band members, like favorite Dan, favorite drummer (with Cog included), etc?--Ecks 10:10, 27 Feb 2006 (CST)

Anyone think it would be a good idea to add other favorite band members to the babel (for example, "Danny Weinkauf is this user's favorite John")?

Editing[edit]

Editing these Userboxes isn't hard. I mean, all you have to do is copy and paste from one of the other templates and mess around with it for a bit on a NEW template page, of course. It's really not that bad. The only time it gets even slightly tricky is when you have to add links to pages with people's names on them (IE Song Votes or Contributions) and that's not even all that hard. All you really need is a basic knowledge of HTML and hex colours. --ArAn 15:23, 5 Mar 2006 (CST)

Add the trumpet[edit]

I think it would be nice if there was an icon for trumpet players. I play the trumpet, and I'd like to show that off on my userpage. -tomthefirst

"Songs Rated" issues[edit]

I can't get the "User has rated the following songs" module to work with my username, presumably due to the space in it. Ownage[edit]

How about some babels for which albums you OWN? Since I only have A User's Guide to They Might Be Giants, and I'd sure like a babel to say that I have it.

Also, I don't even know how to make a custom one, so I can't really do it myself.

page name[edit]

why is the name of the page "babel" when it doesn't relate to languages 213.64.167.100 10:48, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

It comes from Wikipedia. The "babel boxes" were (and are) made to put on your userpage to show what languages you could edit articles in, but then people used the same template to say other stuff on their userpages, and I guess the word "babel" still stuck.  ~ magbatz
They're called "userboxes" there now. The only ones still called "babel" are the language ones, and even then it's something more like "babel userboxes". I suppose we could move it. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 08:02, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Venue Songs[edit]

A "favorite venue song" babel would be dandy. Any thoughts on this?--Josherz 17:18, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Don't know if this'll be added to the babel list, but here's a userbox that does that:

Venuesongscover.jpg This user's favorite venue song is Pittsburgh.

And just change the insides of the bracket with Pittsburgh to whatever song you want. ~ magbatz 21:14, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

I've taken the liberty to create thumbnails for possible venue song babels. However, I'm still unaware as to how you go about uploading images to TMBW, so if anyone could kindly explain, it would be greatly appreciated.--Josherz 00:23, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

It's right here: Special:Upload. The link to it's located on the lower part of the left navigation thing under the "toolbox" (but only if you're logged in). By the way, if you're creating these just for babel boxes, keep in mind the pictures will be put in a space of 45x45 pixels, so making them that size would probably be good though not definitely necessary. ~ magbatz 00:53, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

State Songs babel box[edit]

so i have created the State Songs state babel box, viewable here: Template:Babel:StateSongsState. if you like it, don't like it, tell me. if you like it enough you think it should go on the babel page, then please do so. i thought it'd be a cool box. please leave feedback on what you think. --antgeth 18:34, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Reasons no: In a perfectly proportionately demographic world, about one in three comes from a State Song state, so it's not that special. There's also the issue of states like Nebraska, Alaska, California, Maryland, Tennessee, Ohio, and probably others that are pseudo-psort-of-state-songs, and of course a few more TMBG state songs (Indiana, probably others). There's also the question of how many people will use it, and whether it deserves to be up there.
Reasons yes: It's cute, and there's always the sure-why-not factor; I wouldn't have even written the above reasons if I weren't bored during study hall. ~ magbatz 19:19, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

An official one or just for my userpage? And thank you SO MUCH for responding!!! -- Buzzmusic100 ("Keep your voice down...")
I'm not sure how to make an official one (I rarely do stuff here) but I'd make one for your userpage. Just use the preview button and screw around with the code a little. -Lekker 16:17, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
To make an "official" box, you would have to create a page called "Template:Babel:Name of box," and put the template on this page. By enclosing the title of a page in two pairs of braces ("{{" and "}}"), one can display the entire contents of that page on any other page, i.e. this one. The "official" boxes, however, do not follow the same lines (coding wise) as the self-made ones, and one would do well to reflect this for their own box. Also, if you really have your heart set getting this box displayed on this page, you should definitely get confirmation from...someone...You should also get confirmation before making a new page. -Apollo. 16:33, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Er, yeah, what she said. Sorry. I wasn't suggesting you make an "official" anything. Just trying to stem the madness. -Lekker 16:40, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

I already put a box like that on my page but can I make an official one?! Or are you telling me that... -- Buzzmusic100 ("Keep your voice down...")

New idea![edit]

Now that we have the This Day in TMBG history thing, maybe we should have a new userbox that says: "On my birthday, blah blah blah happened" or even "Nothing in TMBG history happened on my birthday." - invisiblehippo97

Number of edits[edit]

I was thinking about doing some userboxes for number of edits made. (If you don't know how to check your number of edits, just go to Special:Preferences, it's listed as the 4th option under "basic info".) I was thinking about a box for "813 edit editor!", but then was thinking about numbers that could reference some other songs. TMBG doesn't offer much to pick from - anything under 100 seems low, so maybe start out with the relatively obscure "100 Cars For Good" for "100 edits for good". Thoughts?--Pittsburghmuggle (talk) 06:26, 12 April 2015 (EDT)

I don't think there are actually enough songs with numbers in the titles to make this make sense. Here Come the 123's only offers single digits other than that one, and there aren't very many others. --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 06:47, 12 April 2015 (EDT)
I made one. Sadly, I'm only at 291 edits, so I have work to do before I can wear it myself.--Pittsburghmuggle (talk) 05:51, 13 April 2015 (EDT)
Why did you ask for other people's opinions if you were planning to do it anyway? No one agreed that it was necessary, and the one person who responded said it wasn't. I still really don't think it's necessary to have one single box of an actually random number just because it happens to be the title of a song, and I don't see anyone caring about using it. --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 06:04, 13 April 2015 (EDT)
Er... okay. Why make it with no opinions yet? Because it's a wiki, I had some free time, and if people decide they don't want it it can be removed. I didn't realize I was on a waiting timer. " still really don't think it's necessary..." You never said you thought it was unnecessary above. You just said there weren't enough number songs. You saying actually that it was unnecessary would have figured into if I made it or not.--Pittsburghmuggle (talk) 18:24, 13 April 2015 (EDT)
User:Invisiblehippo97 blanked out the Babel page, no explanation, but used the custom box to put it on their own page. I'm conflicted about this. I was initially annoyed because my page was blanked out with no warning or explanation, however pleased they thought it was a good enough idea to put on their own page.--Pittsburghmuggle (talk) 18:24, 13 April 2015 (EDT)
