Interps
Remember when you post an interpretation that it's supposed to be about how YOU interpret it. There's too many interps that try to figure out what the Johns meant by it. --Dunklekuh81
- I agree, but I disagree. I like French fries, but I don't like French fries. I like to interpret things the way I like, and I usually unknowingly leave a print of whatever crazy philosophies are running through my head at the time (for example, a society-bashing Name interp and a Buddhist-tinged DLS interp...). Though I often think people are complete idiots for saying any random song is totally connected to this one girlfriend they didn't-let's-start with, of course you shouldn't discourage their free association by saying that on the wiki (which I think is the point of what you were saying). And in defense of interpretations that try to figure out what the original intent was, analysis of the author's meaning is a cornerstone of interpretation of literature, and I find John-code-cracking to be a joy. ~ magbatz 17:21, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Well, yeah. That's okay sometimes, but it seems like 99% of all interps are strictly based on the John's life experiences or whatever. Drawing some originality, ya know, paint your own picture. --Dunklekuh81
- Ah! Yes! I agree! I am flooded with memories of my Withered Hope interpretation... everyone had these elaborate inner meanings, I just said it was about some bag that loved a withered thing... anyway, the interps that irk me are fiine in moderation... but hearing about as Magbatz said your "girlfriend [you] didn't-let's-start with" really doesn't interest me. But, we can't forbid it, that is hypocracy, plus it's a wiki... --Apollo 01:17, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
SBCG4AP
I was reading an article about Strong Bad's Cool Game For Atractive People today, and TMBG was briefly mentioned, made me smile. Here's the quote:
- Will there be any They Might Be Giants songs in the game?
- Strong Bad: Only if my nerd-music detector stops working. This is a Strong BAD game, not a Strong SAD game, man!
Also, it would be pretty awesome if they did do some music for it :] --Jade 19:43, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've always thought TMBG makes good background music for video games (ever try muting your TV and playing it over stuff? AMAZING), so yeah, that'd be cool. Also, where'd that quote come from? I've read a few articles but never saw that one. Akagi 06:28, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

New Album Announced
Well, kinda... The newsletter announced that, "After Dan Miller's big wedding, we're fully embarking on our new album projects, but are taking a bit of time out to keep our live side thrivin'."
So yeah, a new album is being worked on. --Dunklekuh81
- I just came here to ask what the chances of a new album would be. Yay New "Mysterious" Album!.
How long should it be before we can expect an "Official" Press Release? --Tedadore2 01:38, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'd say maybe December. Or May. --Dunklekuh81
I guess the recent news confirmed it. I like the kids albums, but I'm bummed it's not an adult album. --Dunklekuh81
- Mmmhmm. Gotta second that. The Else was really great, I'd love to hear more new adult stuff. --Lemita 01:33, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
The thing that makes me really disappointed is Flansy's attitude towards the adult projects. It seems like they are only going to keep it up for awhile before going 100% kids projects. That type of behavior just cost him the Best John award. Linnell gets it now :B --Dunklekuh81
- WHOA NOW. Don't do anything rash. We Flansburghers are rarer than you think, so just rethink your decision before you go and do something you may regret later. ~ magbatz
You might be right, magbatz. But you have to agree with me, Flansy needs to remember us older kids. I take pride in my glasses and my left-handedness because of Flansy. --Dunklekuh81

Senior Quote
Well. I'm turning to the internet for help. This could go poorly...
So, I'm a senior in high school, and next to our yearbook picture we get to post our "Senior quote." They're usually pretentious one-liners drafted from art-house films or hallmark cards, but mine's just gotta be a TMBG (Or State Songs or Mono Puff) lyric. Trouble is they've written so many really great lyrics, it's impossible to sift through them all by Wednesday. So, if you could pick one, poignant lyric to exemplify your high school career, what would YOU use? I'm just looking to get ideas. Current favorites are:
I don't want the world, I just want your half.
Speak softly, drive a Sherman tank/ Laugh hard, it's a long way to the bank
I was young and foolish then, I feel old and foolish now.
Thanks! --Homestar Golfer 04:15, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- I don't have any to add, but the latter is the most relevant out of the three you gave, so my vote's for that'n. Akagi 07:39, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- Can I suggest "We'll meet at the end of the tour."? I signed everyone's yearbooks with that when I graduated high school. =) --hermy-o-ninny
- "Make a little birdhouse in your soul," if you'd like to be absurd. If you'd like to alter a lyric slightly, to make it more applicable to graduating, I'd say "We're older than we've ever been and now we're even older." --Lemita 00:20, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm a senior in highschool, too, and I used "And the truth is, we don't know anything" for my quote. So go ahead, if you want to copy me (it does make an awfully good quote). Otherwise i'd pick "I don't want the world, I just want your half," as that was my second choice. My 3rd, was "the things we cherish are small indeed/so much the larger the need." Ana 20:18, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- How about "My room's comfortably small with rubber lining the walls." Or "Who's gonna build my death ray?" Or "Count the arms and legs and heads and then divide by five." Keep your classmates scratching their heads for years to come. --Oddjob 20:30, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- May I suggest "an adventure we have spurned, we've spurned a new leaf overturned it's a new leaf overturned" from Cowtown. A bit cheesy, but cool nonetheless. Or something of the Puppet Head persuasion (i.e. "the good 'ol days never say good bye" "love and proseperity" "mighty zombie...")
- how about "Stand on your own head for a change/Give me some skin to call my own." it seems fitting for someone graduating :P

New pages?
What about pages for Opening Acts/People TMBG opened for (beside category:opening acts), Stump The Band and Spin The Dial (that one seems wrong as a song page, it's not really a song). - Wout
- We've been meaning to make a Stump-the-Band page. The way I was thinking it might be a descriptive article, and then have a list of known performances. This page is really good, so we could cross-reference our show archive and that page to make sure we have everything. Maybe it would count as a Song Theme? Or a category? ~ magbatz 21:49, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, there's this whole genre of stuff like that, that we don't have categorized very well. That incldues stuff like "Stump The Band", "Spin The Dial", and "Phone Calls From The Dead" that are not really songs. Maybe we could create a new category for them, and have them stop using the song template. I'm thinking a new category called "Live Show Segments" or something like that. I'd like to work the album release details into the album pages themselves. Currently there is a link that says "Full release details". I'm thinking that we should pull the release details into the main album page itself, and have it so that you can expand/collapse the release details (since they might be kind of long). Have TMBG ever caused you to visit Lincoln, MA?
Hello everyone,
I'm working on a story for a new magazine in the Lincoln, Mass area (Northwest Life) profiling the Two Johns and their relationship with their hometown. If anyone reads this before February 2, 2009 (yep, Groundhog Day!) who may have gone to school with either of them or saw their return to play a concert at Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School in 1993 or so, I'd love to get an email from you on your experiences.

Greetings from Massachusetts; I'm writing a story for a new magazine on the Johns and hometown Lincoln, Mass. I was wondering if any of you has ever taken a trip to Lincoln specifically to see the land of their upbringing and second album title. If so (and you read this before the end of Groundhog's Day 2009), please drop me a note at bgoslow@yahoo.com and either share a small bit about why you went, what you found, and what people thought when you told them why you were there - and did you pick up any town merchandise as a souvenir.
Thanks! Brian Goslow (bgoslow@yahoo.com), Northwest Life

He's really the only one that can bring me to tears of laughter. --MichelleMaBelle 08:38, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'll catch it West Coast time and elaborate. ;) --MichelleMaBelle 07:21, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Not sure of the context of it, I wasn't paying attention, but he didn't call it by name...was talking to a guest and said that TMBG had a service that changed songs at least once a week. --Valerie 07:19, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Oh, hello Linnell head...
- Power Spheres -- what's it doing there? --24.36.147.5 16:46, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Pages get cached for people that aren't logged in. You're seeing a page that was obviously cached on Linnell's birthday. --Duke33 19:32, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Studio 360
Are we sure the Aspen show is going to be broadcast live? It seems tonight's episode is all about The Great Gatsby. --HerRoyalFlyness 01:10, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- Studio 360 isn't ever broadcast live, as far as I know (and doesn't have new episodes premiering on Saturday nights). I've corrected this in the news. It should be in next week's episode. -CapitalQ ♫ talk ♪ 01:19, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- My bad, I think the listings said that they would be recording live...I assumed it meant that they were broadcasting live as well, but obviously i was mistaken. --Duke33 01:29, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Confused! The show their website says is this week's show doesn't mention TMBG or sound like the one they're going to be in. Are we sure it's going to be broadcast this weekend? --Ganna Insert non-formatted text here
New Logo
I'm positive that the new logo has been there before today. I think I saw it either Saturday or Sunday. I didn't know it was front page news --Goodtimes2
- It was put up on Wednesday, July 29 at 6:54 in the evening. File directories are always helpful. ~ magbatz
- What new Logo? -- Jason DeLima - ♥! - 11:11, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

Yahoo! Top Searches
I just noticed on Yahoo's front page, TMBG is #9 in their top searches today, right between the GI Joe movie and Biodiesel. -- LitMatch 14:18, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

It's down. Just thought I'd mention it in case, I dunno, the webmaster is unaware. --Dunklekuh81
Ellie Greenwich
Just wanted to mention that Ellie Greenwich has passed away- writer of Maybe I Know who once passed the Johns busking her song on the street and tipped them $20. Might be worth mentioning on the home page- but it looked like I wasn't able to post updates. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellie_Greenwich --Oddjob 18:56, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- You should be able to edit the news on the main page, but not the main page itself. I think it's worth noting here, but i don't know that it deserves front page coverage, especially with all the Here Comes Science updates coming out. It was only one song in all fairness. --Duke33 20:18, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
- I thought that was Flans getting the story wrong. In any case the song page references a newsletter that says it was written by Lesley Gore, and every time I hear the story told I hear that it was the granddaughter who gave them the money. Hard to be true since Ms. Greenwich was only 69. In any case, no matter the details, Ellie Greenwich will be missed. She wrote some damn good tunes. --MichelleMaBelle 09:06, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- It was written by Ellie but sung by Gore. Ok, I guess keep it off. Good call Duke, it's not really TMBG news. --Oddjob 19:08, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Interview in "Nature"
Looks like TMBG was interviewed about Here Comes Science in yesterday's issue of nature. I'm not willing to part with $30 for that interview, but if anyone has a subscription, here's the url: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v460/n7259/full/4601084a.html
- At least part of the Nature interview with Linnell is available on their podcast for free here: http://www.nature.com/nature/podcast/ Linnell's interview starts at 13:59 minutes in. --BlueCanary 04:54, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

tmbg.com
Just as an aside to the launch of the new theymightbegiants.com, tmbg.com has not changed and still links to the old version of theymightbegiants.com. I assume it is still a bit of a work in progress. --BlueCanary 04:59, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Zooglobble Linnell Interview
Don't think it's main page worthy as it's a bit short, but the Zooglobble blog has posted an interview with John Linnell where he discusses his childhood musical memories, the challenges of writing a science themed album and a little bit about the process of making the videos. You can read it here. --BlueCanary 05:22, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
