Trivia/Info
- Both this song and "Upside Down Frown" were written over a set of "delightful drum loops" provided by The Dust Brothers for The Else[1].
- The samples are from the introduction of the album Dap Dippin' with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Sharon Jones herself would later offer backing vocals for "Crystal Fortress" in 2008.
- The "picture in a book of a beautiful crook" may be a reference to an idea for a book Flansburgh had when the Johns were offered a book deal prior to the recording of The Else, which never materialized. Flansburgh pitched a book about the history of crooks, while Linnell had a concept that eventually led to the song "The Mesopotamians."[2]
