They Might Be Giants Friday Night Family Podcast
They Might Be Giants Friday Night Family Podcast |
Artist: They Might Be Giants
Years: 2007 - 2008
They Might Be Giants Friday Night Family Podcast was a video podcast that ran to promote They Might Be Giants' children's music efforts at the time, both Here Come The ABCs and its followup, Here Come The 123s. It was conceptualized by the band themselves, and just like the Disney albums, they had full creative control over the podcast's content.
The podcast was hosted by The Puppet Johns, who introduced—and occasionally performed—one or two songs per episode. The Johns were sometimes joined by other cast members, such as Robin Goldwasser's Deeply Felt Puppet Theater. Episodes premiered nearly every Friday for the duration of the podcast's run. The podcast went on a hiatus after "Can You Find It? (Podcast Episode)" in June 2008, which lasted over a year, except to post a music video for "The Ballad Of Davy Crockett (In Outer Space)" in July.
According to a press release for Here Comes Science, there were plans to continue the podcast for the album. However, other than "Podcast 39", which was strangely posted in the main podcast feed despite sharing the same format with this podcast, these plans never came into fruition due to the band's contract with Disney coming to an end once it was fulfilled.[1]
