Fan Recaps and Comments:
This is truly an all-star setlist, and that makes it extra frustrating that the band was off their game for this show. A not-great show for TMBG is still a fantastic show for any other band, but it was rough. They were playing weirdly fast and then announced that they were dropping a song from the planned setlist, so I guess they planned more songs than could actually fit in the show; they started at 8 and wrapped at 10:30, when I'm used to their shows going until 11, so maybe the venue only told them at the last minute that they had to cut out early. The drumming felt a little out of sync; JF was so thrown off that he forgot an entire verse of "New York City" and sang "Cloisonné" like someone had a gun to his head. I wish they'd dropped two more songs and played the rest at normal speed.
But how can you choose even one more song to drop from this list? "Cloisonné" and "Withered Hope" have been dearly missed since they dropped out of the rotation a decade ago. "The Statue Got Me High" and "She's an Angel" and "Ana Ng" are true classics. I don't remember the last time I heard them play "Shoehorn with Teeth". And "New York City" is my TMBG fan origin story song. So okay, I'll deal with it being a little choppy.
Highlights included the best "She's Actual Size" I've ever heard — I really hope someone got a video of that one — and a fully rocking "Call You Mom". "Fingertips" and "The Guitar" were perfectly on point. "Dinner Bell" was one of the few songs that benefited from the faster tempo thanks to a truly virtuoso performance from JL, not a syllable missed even at top speed.
The Eastern is a great venue and I'd be happy to see them there again anytime, especially if they know what time the show ends. --Rosefox (talk) 16:32, 17 November 2025 (EST)
