Fan Recaps and Comments:
And this is number three! I'm writing this down 2+ years later based on scattered notes, but from what I can recall...
- Managed to land front and reasonably center! I remember liking the venue, and good masking rates in the crowd.
- Pre-show mix included Just A Friend by Biz Markie and Me And My Husband by Mitski. First song of hers I'd ever heard, somehow, and introduced me to a lot more excellent music, so thank you, Mr. Flansburgh.
- THEY crowns out in force that night. User:Softfuzzyman bullied me into wearing one--"Flans NEEDS the healing energies. He NEEDS them." (This was mere months after the rib-cracking car accident.)
- I made special note that "Darlings of Lumberland sounded good!" but don't recall the actual horn arrangement. I do know that Clippy was not in attendance.
- JL said Dan was taking a bold stance of saying all bad movies were good and all good movies were bad, which made for interesting conversation. "Unlike the rest of us who only have normal opinions." (Said without any apparent irony. JF doubled over laughing for a moment. "Normal. Okay.")
- More Bostonian high-school stories from JF, who claimed to have had a job driving a pastry truck at age 17. The truck didn't have pastry racks so it was very easy for them to... go missing. "Yeah I don't know, the bakery was short this morning..." (He mimed wiping powdered sugar off his face and shirt.)
- JF used the term "k-hole". I did not record the context for that.
- The crowd's cheers for an encore somehow all unified into a rhythmic clapping that was so solid that when they took the stage again, Marty took up our beat and they just jammed out to it for a bit.
- In the Authenticity Trip encore, JF started with the second verse and only realized his mistake when he abruptly ran out of lyrics. They started again from the top.
- That's all I can think of, but I'm sure there's something else... Maybe Selfcallednowhere, who I spotted furiously scribbling down notes, will add more eventually.
