Hi, wikians!
Welcome to TMBW's latest project, initiated by none other than John Flansburgh himself. First, if you're not sure what this is about, start by reading about it here.
We will be creating the actual system to hold and display all of this information over the next few days or so, but you don't have to wait for us if you'd like to start getting the content ready now. I've set up some example events below, and adding new ones should be self-explanatory.
I think now would be the time to lay some basic ground rules, so here goes:
- Please try to keep these events at least 2-3 sentences long and informative; we don't want a big collection of stub events, we want information! One relevant TMBW article should be associated with each event (and bolded). It's definitely preferred to have a picture next to the event - but sometimes there will be no relevant one.
- For now, if multiple significant events fall on the same day, add all of them below and we'll later figure out how to deal with them - whether it comes down to combining them, displaying multiple events per day or just choosing the most significant one. In the meantime, the more content we have ready, the better.
- Let's try to stick to actual events over fake/joke ones without specific days attached ("The Day That Love Came To Play", "The Day Marvin Gaye and Phil Ochs got married", etc.) There might be a few exceptions to this rule; we'll see as this comes along!
- Some examples of noteworthy events about the band itself:
- birthdays of John/John and the band
- album release dates
- significant events for the band, etc.
- Some examples of noteworthy events surrounding TMBG songs or culture:
- birthdays of referenced individuals (like Alice Cooper, Bobby Orr, Edith Head, William Allen White)
- significant events related to songs (the day Istanbul was founded as a city, the date of James K. Polk's inauguration, the day James Ensor died, the day The Edison Museum opened), etc.

- Some examples of noteworthy events about the band itself:
- It is usually not necessary to upload a new image to accompany your event. You can try to be creative by using images that already exist on the wiki, but remember that not every event needs an illustration. If you do want to upload an image to go along with your event, try to restrict yourself to very significant or notable events, or images that can also be used elsewhere.
- Events should be recorded in the present tense—use "is" or "are". Example: "1994 — John Henry, They Might Be Giants' fifth studio album, is released. This album is their first to be recorded with a live backing band."
- Please preview your edits with the "Show preview" button before saving an edit here. If you need help figuring out how to format a new event, simply copy and paste an existing one and replace its year, image (or leave the image blank), and description.
Most importantly, have fun! :] Enjoy. -CapitalQ ♫ talk ♪ 16:33, 27 April 2012 (EDT)
