JarnikMaginski:

Linnell messed up during Spiraling Shape and they had to restart the song. Before restarting he asked the crowd in the middle to stop screaming because he couldn't concentrate, and then asked the sound engineer to raise Marty's volume because he couldn't hear the drums. During the replay, Linnell made mistakes in the same place but the band dropped out for a bit and continued on the next bar.

i am a little frustrated with this show. not with the band but with the audience. i'm reactivating this account for the first time in a long time. it's nothing major, but i wanted it documented. as is noted, Doctor Worm was ON the setlist in the second Encore but was not played. i can say with certainty this was because of a person in the audience who i believe was inebriated who shouted rather aggressively during a quiet moment "PLAY DOCTOR WORM!!" in the middle of Istanbul. in the middle of Dan Levine's trombone solo. that was EXTREMELY disrespectful. it made me and my boyfriend very upset, and obviously made the band frustrated.
in addition - there was someone in attendance who was holding up a sign that said "wanted:" and then a drawing of a worm on it. this is far more tasteful but i think contributes / indicates a poor attitude as a audience member.
i think a healthy attitude should be to start and end with the assumption that you are a GUEST in the musical experience and that it is fundamentally disrespectful to put your own desires before the show that the band has planned.

Yet again late with this recap, but like the Brooklyn shows, I'd be doing this two-night stand a disservice by not writing anything. While the Brooklyn trip was my first time solo traveling by car, this Boston trip was my first time solo traveling by plane! It was only an hour-ish plane ride from Cleveland to Boston, which is I far prefer to the alternative of a 9 and a half hour drive. I had an early flight the morning of the 5th and a show that very evening, so it was a loooong day for me. I landed so early that when I got to my hotel, they were not even ready for check-ins yet. So, I dropped my bag off and procured some cafe con pan (an iced mocha and a bagel) from a nearby coffee shop. I and some friends from this website's Discord server made plans to get lunch that day before the show, so I restlessly waited around, savoring my treat and making it last, until it was time to meet up. Spirits were very high at that table, we were all so excited to meet each other! I brought some of them with me for a detour when we were all finished so I could check into my hotel, and then we headed straight to the venue.
Compared to the Brooklyn Steel, the outside of the venue was not a very fun place to wait. It was right across from Fenway Park, and we all had to kind of squeeze together. Did I still have fun? Of course! I was hanging out with my friends, and that was enough for me. One friend brought a bead set, and so a few of us sat around making bracelets. If I had a nickel for every time I made bracelets on the ground while waiting outside for a TMBG show, I would have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. Doors were 30 minutes early, so we got inside at 6:30, but the show was still at 8 so we had 90 minutes of waiting ahead of us. 90 minutes of listening to Flans's oddly sexually-charged pre-show playlist... thanks. I actually got my dream spot this night, which of course was a barrier spot in the middle of the Flans/Horns side.
Like the other two said, the crowd kinda sucked. Admittedly, the Spiraling Shape double false start was a little funny, but being a little funny doesn't excuse being rowdy to the point of making the musicians mess up. The energy was not as high as it was in Brooklyn, either. Honestly, I don't have a lot to say about this show... I enjoyed the Factory Showroom stuff, and set 2 was pretty standard fare for a TMBG setlist. I don't think there were any songs that got played that I had not heard live already. I said in my Brooklyn night 2 recap that I am not the biggest fan of Exquisite Dead Guy, but it makes me happy that bigger fans of the song than I were able to see it again after being out-of-rotation for so long. Hearing Brontosaurus while being directly in front of the horns was a fun experience, because I could barely hear the rest of the band over them. It was awesome. Speaking of the horns... DISRESPECT to the person who yelled out "PLAY DOCTOR WORM!" during Levine's solo in the Istanbul intro. This has been said already, but it bears repeating, because IT WAS ON THE SETLIST! People suck.
After the show, I hung out with some friends in their hotel room for a bit, we got takeout and I ate some dumplings and egg rolls on their floor. I do not remember if they were good, I was just happy to have some food. Then I headed back to my own hotel room, wondering what tomorrow's spotlight would be...
