Celebrate James Ensor's Death Week With They Might Be Giants is a sampler CD sent to radio stations in late 2015 focusing on, according to a letter sent alongside the disc, "the more haunted work of TMBG."
Description[edit]
An email sent to radio stations that were receiving the disc read:
Greetings Dial-A-Song Radio Network DJs! John Flansburgh of They Might Be Giants here. Last year, the very cool folks at KMSU celebrated the Nov. 19 "death-iversary" of famed Belgian painter James Ensor by playing They Might Be Giants all. day. long. They are doing it again this year, but we were so enthusiastic about their idea we thought why not take it one step further and invite all of you radio network DJs to join in the celebration. So we have created a sampler of haunted, Ensor-appropriate TMBG songs that could serve as the cornerstone of a musical set spotlighting Ensor and TMBG's general big-time death trip, and we are sending that to you momentarily. We would invite you to play it, and make James Ensor’s Death Week a worldwide musical event. And of course there is a very real overlap in the spirit of this sampler and Halloween you might be doing, so if that suits your programming plans better—that is cool too.
