Bluef00t:

Will probably come back with details later, but for now, WOW. I've never been to the first show of a tour (right after a new release no less!) before, and the experience of new songs, new arrangements, and a freshly rehearsed band was super memorable.
The Bearsville Theater stage is only about waist height and very narrow, so not everyone at the front of the line could score a front row spot. But there was no barrier, so there was actually a better view from a few rows back. Got VERY hot from all the rockin' out.

  • Biggest Surprise of the Night: There was much competition! For me, I think it had to be opening with “Santa’s Beard.” That’s a song I never thought I’d hear live, especially not as an opener. I know people were shocked to hear “Til My Head Falls Off” because it hasn’t been played live in 18 years. Maybe it’s because haven’t been to a show in 12 years, so I could swear that they had just played it. On the other hand, this was apparently the 13th ever live performance of “Stand On Your Own Head.” I guess that’s what you get for this being a surprise Lincoln show!
  • Best Transition: Going from the big rock ending of “Fingertips” into “Til My Head Falls Off” was very exciting.
  • Best Dental Exam: Flansburgh holding a camera up to his mouth throughout “Stuff Is Way.”
  • Best Acting Award (Duo): John Flansburgh and John Linnell nearly remembering all the words to the “Time Is Money” bit in the middle of “Snowball In Hell.”
  • Best Lighting Decision: Wu-Tang yellow during “Wu-Tang”
  • Most Shocking Stray Catcher: The band Geese. Remarking on the phenomenon of industry plant musical acts, Flansburgh said, “It turns out, you don’t even like Geese!” He said later that Geese were very talented.
  • Most Reverent Band Member Introduction: The Stick.
  • Most Cathartic Performance: “When Will You Die?”
  • Most Famous Person: Mark Pender, who you know from tv.
  • Best Debut: “Get Down” with the horn section.
