Talk:The Mundanes

From This Might Be A Wiki

I found this on YouTube the other day and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. The video's called Loose Talk and it's mostly a younger Linnell playing Asteroids in an arcade. The music sounds a little like the Mundanes. --hermy-o-ninny 00:53, 2 Jul 2006 (MDT)

I think that it is the Mundanes, but I don't know where the song came from.

This band makes a good reason why New Wave is and should be dead (I still like Talking Heads and XTC!). And is the lead singer crosseyed? -Ecks

Check out that latest comment left on this video. Suposedly this guy claims to be John Andrews from the Mundanes and has now found an unreleased video of him and his band playing from over 27 years ago. Pretty amazing, I mean, if its true... --AnklePants 15:31, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

You know, I disagree with a lot of people (and John Linnell, according to some interviews) when I say that these guys weren't that bad. Sure, they weren't that different from anyone else, but they had a pretty good pop sensibility, and I find myself nodding along to "Make It The Same" every time I hear it. --Aidan

I agree not to bad were they. Why did they break up? (Mr Tuck)

Pages?

I am a huge fan of The Mudanes, like, 30 years after they broke up. Anyway, I noticed that there are many songs that have pages but no lyrics. There are also many songs that don't have pages but I am wondering if I should make pages for them. After all, this is a TMBG wiki, not a Mundanes wiki.

John songwriting???

Before the song "I'm Livin' on Ginger Ale," John Andrews sometimes introduces the song as:

This is a song me and John wrote called "I'm Livin' on Ginger Ale." Pop song.

This implies that John Linnel started songwriting for the Mundanes. Should we move this to the article?

While Linnell did, apparently, write songs back then, I'm not sure that any were performed by The Mundanes. It's not impossible that they co-wrote the song, but John Andrews could have been referring to Jonathan Gregg, so one can't be sure. Unless this was some sort of text(?), and he definitely said "John" not "Jon." -Apollo (Phoebus!) 02:41, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, Gregg did right stuff sometimes. The only thing Mr. Linnell wrote back then, that he told anyone about anyway, was "Now That I Have Everything." Which they did not perform. So. --Self Called Nowhere 03:09, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Song pages

Is it really necessary to have pages for all the songs we know of? I have live versions of a fair number more that aren't here but honestly I don't know if all these pages are needed considering how minimal Linnell's involvement really was. Beyond the 7" I don't see why they're needed--what do people think about this? --Self Called Nowhere 20:51, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Reunion shows???

This should be incorporated to the article, but I wanted to ask around first... soooooo what's up with the reunion shows? There's photographic evidence of one in 2008 [1], as well as a reference to a taping for a local PBS show [2]. Does anybody have any other information??? --76.93.152.205 21:14, 25 February 2019 (EST)

Unfortunately I do not--wish very much that I did, believe me, but the pictures on my site were just uncovered via some social media sleuthing by ant, without any associated context or additional info. If I manage to dig anything else up I'll absolutely let people know, but for now I'm just happy that we have the pix at least! --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 03:44, 26 February 2019 (EST)

Femme Fatale

Hey, actually, this song is on YouTube, so someone COULD create that page.--You&Me!! (talk) 11:39, 12 February 2022 (EST)

Show pages?

Should there be show pages for The Mundanes? Their setlists are documented on setlist.fm. --ColorOfInfinity (talk) 23:24, 31 October 2022 (EDT)

IMO, doesn't feel relevant enough to track each show for a pre-TMBG band where JL was more a musician than songwriter. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 11:19, 1 November 2022 (EDT)

Mundanes Wiki

I feel that there should be a separate wiki, one similar to this one, just for The Mundanes. I think that would be pretty neat and there could be babels and other cool features. Ms. Xcitement (talk) 09:43, 6 February 2023 (EST)
