Talk:Album Raises New And Troubling Questions

From This Might Be A Wiki

Pre-album discussion

BEST ALBUM TITLE EVER. Also, "Tubthumping" (which I admit I haven't listened to)? The music video version of "Cloisonne" (which is pretty good)? This compilation might even be better than Join Us (which is awesome, by the way). Can't wait! Too many parantheses! Ah!!! - Tvfactoryguy 16:53, October 16, 2011

It does sound like this might be a working title. We'll see soon enough. --Duke33 11:16, 17 October 2011 (EDT)

Boat of Car

Why is it that I have an mp3 of "Boat of Car (Other Thing)"? I cannot remember. It's grouped with the other Other Thing tracks that came on the Other Thing EP. Could I have gotten it from the TMBG Radio thingy? - 2sheds 23:07, October 18, 2011

Are you sure it isn't the TMBG Mini-Brass version? SamuelMan36 23:11, 18 October 2011 (EDT)
Zounds you are correct, sir! Damn my mislabeling. My deteriorating sanity thanks you for your prompt response. - 2sheds 23:18, October 18, 2011

DVD

Are we sure there is an accompanying DVD? It could just be video tracks on a cd. --Duke33 00:10, 19 October 2011 (EDT)

i suppose it's possible, but i sure hope not. i harbour no nostalgia for that component of the mid-00s. --ant 00:14, 19 October 2011 (EDT)
I harbor nostalgia for many components of the mid-00s, including crappy flash games, poorly done flash based websites and yes, enhanced CDs... Seriously. --Propman 00:49, 19 October 2011 (EDT)
"a brand new rarities album from they might be giants that contains 20 previously unreleased tracks along with 5 videos that are exclusively available here, direct from tmbg." "Because many in They Might Be Giants' audience still love the CD format we are making a special audio-only pressing of the album. We will make our first run on Nov. 1 and should be able to ship by Dec. 1." No DVD. ~ magbatz 04:24, 30 October 2011 (EDT)
No DVD. The videos are a bonus on the digital download only (and i believe only direct from the TMBG Merch Store. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johncbowerman (talkcontribs) 08:00, December 5, 2011

John Flansburgh playing keybaords

The liner notes credit both Johns with playing keyboards. Does anyone know which song John Flansburgh would have played keyboards on and has he ever played keyboards before? - Ash 03:25, October 30, 2011

i'm sure he plays keyboards all the time (esp. mono puff), it's just usually insignificant and not noteworthy. i'm thinking about the songs that sound more home-demoy and less full-bandy (with lots of synths), like fellowship and read a book. but i don't know. it doesn't really matter —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.79.168.217 (talk) 03:55, October 30, 2011

CD

Did anyone get their CD yet? I ordered this the day it was released on their website, and obviously got the download but am still waiting on the CD. I thought it would be sent out around mid-November? --Oddjob 13:33, 29 November 2011 (EST)

As I recall, Flans said that the CDs would be made and ready-to-ship by December 1. So a bit more waiting, but they should arrive relatively soon. -Apollo (colloquia!) 16:20, 29 November 2011 (EST)
Just got an email from MerchDirect: "Your package was shipped using USPS First Class Mail and you should expect to receive it in 4-5 business days." ~ magbatz 21:27, 29 November 2011 (EST)
Just got the same email! How about that. --Oddjob 21:43, 29 November 2011 (EST)
My CD arrived on Saturday (December 3). Because the content and the liner inserts are the same as the download album, I think i will leave this sealed for my collection. :-) Yea TMBG (and TMBW)! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johncbowerman (talkcontribs) 07:59, December 5, 2011
Who said the liner inserts are the same? They're different! -CapitalQtalk ♪ 17:47, 5 December 2011 (EST)

"Raises"

Hey, I just got mine on Saturday as well. I just realized that nowhere on the cover of my physical copy does it ever say the word "raises". Is anyone else's like that?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.22.84.254 (talk) 10:31, December 5, 2011

It says raises "raises" right after "album" in some of the lower lines. It's just behind the other text. Look at the third line from the bottom in particular. --BlueCanary 11:49, 5 December 2011 (EST)
Ah, you're right. Come to think of it, I remember it being like that in the digital liner notes too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.22.84.254 (talk) 13:36, December 5, 2011

Mr Tuck's thoughts

Wow! 4 years already. I still think of this as new release. You have to hand it to the Giants. Think of how many bands come and go in that time? If I'd have been in charge of the songs I'd have swapped the following four songs from this release to the "main album" of Join Us.

"Oh We" (a delightful little song) "Money For Dope" (Linnell at his 60s 'random' style best) "Read a Book" (an absolutely frantic 1 minute of rock with jokes from Flans) and "Now I Know" (a Linnell joke about cutting the wrong wire in a lovely little ballad)

the following 4 would have gone in the other direction from Join Us to This Album...

"Old Pine Box" (solid enough but a bit dull) "Let your Hair Down" (a weird rather hippy 1967 romantic song that I've never taken too) admittedly I could be talked around on dropping those two from Join Us. They're pretty at least. However "Judy is Your Viet Nam" (an unpleasant mean spirited song written around a title) and the truly horrific "Dogwalker" (I remember being chastised for criticising this tune at the time, I think it's the lowest rated song from a proper release) would have benefited from being moved of the main release. Amazon.com

I think that my CD is a fake. It doesn't match any of the album art here except for the front. The bar code on the box says "Manufactured by Amazon.com kydr, Lexington KY". I couldn't find any information about this on the wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MidoFS (talkcontribs) 16:37, January 4, 2017

amazon prints up cd(-r)s on demand. they're not really "fake", but they are quite underwhelming. --ant 16:43, 4 January 2017 (EST)
Yeah mines the same. I got it last November. It's pretty weird but thats how they work with some of the CD's and DVD's. Maybe the TMBG store has some normal ones. Pinatatime (talk)
