Fan Recaps and Comments:

There were a couple of opening acts for this show, though I don't remember who they were. On of them mentioned that they had been touring with TMBG this season, but were disappointed about not selling anything so they gave away the last of their cds here and most of their tees. Several dozen of us drove in a convoy from a town a couple hours away and got their before the locals did and therefore sat up front. The venue is were the Des Moines Opera and other fancy acts play and had just been remodeled. TMBG were one of the first acts to play there since the remodel and having come from playing a lot of gyms and "ballrooms" kept mentioning through the show that this was the nicest venue they've played in a while and would love to come back. I don't think they ever have. In between playing First Kiss and Doctor Worm Flansburgh half-jokingly said that he new we were all pumped to hear stuff we've never heard before (Severe Tire Damage had come out 6 mo. before the show and I think he assumed most people there were waiting for them to play "the hits"). A lot of the audience, however, say along boisterously to Doctor Worm causing Flansburgh to remark in surprise and as if flattered. The version of Twisting played a few bars longer than usual and the audience was encouraged to "get down," which we did. After the show, TMBG stayed and signed autographs and hung out for over two hours. They asked audience members and theater staff how to book further shows at the Hoyt Sherman, but no one in charge was there and the rest of us didn't know. Someone brought them beer and they left. They played a few more songs, but I can't remember them. The order of the ones that I listed is fairly accurate based on my memories, those of my friends, and some press releases.
