Stephen Colbert is an American comedian, writer, producer, actor, media critic, and television host. Since 2015, he has hosted the late-night television talk show The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS.
From 2005 - 2014, he hosted The Colbert Report on Comedy Central. From the official website:
Stephen T. Colbert (the "T" stands for "Truth" — actually it's Tyrone) grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, which is the cultural center of the South. Some people say Savannah, Georgia is, but does Savannah have the Roper Hospital School of Practical Nursing? I don't think so!
Colbert has many associations with They Might Be Giants. TMBG performed the theme song, "Dog On Fire", and other music for The Daily Show, for which Colbert was a writer and contributor for many years prior to getting his own shows. He joined the band live at a show in 2005, and is credited as having narrated Robin Goldwasser's musical—People Are Wrong!—produced by John Flansburgh and starring many other TMBG collaborators. He appeared alongside TMBG on Wig In A Box - Songs From And Inspired By Hedwig And The Angry Inch, and also appears on Sarah Vowell's The Partly Cloudy Patriot, which featured music by the Johns. Colbert is a known TMBG fan.
