Hi! My name is Ireland, I love animals, art, and TMBG! I'm soon to be a graphic design student. TMBG has a special place in my heart as they've played a part of my life since I was a child. Read below to find out more about me and my TMBG journey!! <3

Discovering TMBG

For me, my TMBG journey started through my dad. My dad had hear Flood on college radio in the 1990s and had also seen glimpses of Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet Head and Ana Ng on MTV. Years went by and it wasn't until he found another Flood CD in a goodwill that he remembered them and brought them to my attention. I was about 8 or 9 at the time, so I was a little too old for their children's music, although I probably could've still enjoyed Here Comes Science. I feel in love instantly with them. They were like something I'd never heard before, and I remember not even really knowing what they were, all I knew was that I loved them. The songs I remember listening to the most include:

  • Don't Let's Start
  • Ana Ng
  • Purple Toupee
  • They'll Need A Crane
  • Birdhouse in Your Soul
  • Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
  • Particle Man
  • We Want A Rock
  • Someone Keeps Moving My Chair
  • Letterbox
  • Whistling in the Dark
  • Women and Men
  • They Might Be Giants
  • I Palindrome I
  • Why Does the Sun Shine?
  • Dr. Worm

I have many memories of listening to these songs in the car with dad or outside with my ipod during the summer. They eventually drifted out of life, I don't really remember falling out of love with them, they just kinda disappeared for a while. It wasn't until November of 2024 that I rediscovered them. I saw a meme with Istanbul (Not Constantinople) playing that reminded me of them. I instantly fell back in love with them.

The great thing about They Might Be Giants is that no matter what they always make you feel good. Which is kinda funny since most of their lyrics include some mid-life crisis-esque imagery. I especially love Linnell's witty and puny lyricism. Like do your favourite bands have acronyms or Palindromes, or references to their own songs, I don't think so. They Be Giants inspire me everyday, from my English assignments at school to my personal art projects. Their lyrics always have me thinking.

John and John are both such great guys, you can really tell they care about their fans and make music because they genuinely enjoy it. The TMBG fan base is the best one I've been in. Everyone is so nice and welcoming, and I love having a community of people who enjoy, love, and celebrate the same things I do.
