This show marked the first performance of "Sleepwalkers" since 2018.
Fan Recaps and Comments:[edit]
Mrsbluebeard: I knew this show was going to be a treat from the moment we heard the band soundchecking Sleepwalkers (twice!) — the Here Come the ABCs/live version is one of my favorite TMBG tracks of all time, so even hearing it through the door was really special, but it had me on high alert when the band came out as a five-piece for the first encore and I'm so glad that meant I was able to catch a complete video; hopefully it doesn't come across on camera, but I was literally shaking! It was a peak moment that I know I'm going to revisit frequently.
Other scattered thoughts:
- No Metal Detector for some reason! A big disappointment for me for a lot of reasons; it's another favorite song, and this was the first FS show where I had a good view of the horns, so I was looking forward to watching them play it. But perhaps getting Metal Detector and Sleepwalkers in the same show would have been too much for my constitution.
- I was reluctant to comment last week on just how arduously long and ultimately disastrous the explanation for the classic Drink! call and response went last weekend in Madison, but I want to mention it now to say that it was fascinating and weirdly rewarding to go from that to what I think was the most succinct and effective explanation I've ever seen Flans give to an audience. People were on the ball immediately, and the energy it brought to the song was electric.
- O, Do Not Forsake Me is coming along nicely. I've seen many people saying they think it should be slower, but I hope as the band locks in more that folks will see the vision, because the tempo feels perfect to me.
