"This venue reminds me of The Hunger Games, and this band reminds me of Rosemary's Baby." - JF
This was my fourteenth TMBG show, and the first after the gap caused by the pandemic. It was also their first show at The Eastern, with Variety Playhouse having been TMBG's go-to Atlanta venue for quite a long time. It was an enthusiastic, sold-out crowd and the show was as fantastic as ever. As many shows as I've seen, this was the first time I actually managed to catch the horn section performing with the band, and it definitely adds another level of energy.
At one point during a pause following a false start on "Hot Cha", Linnell heard an audience member shout "We love you, Gilgamesh!" (They had played "The Mesopotamians" earlier in the show.) He asked "Which one of us is supposed to be Gilgamesh?"
Flansburgh replied, "I've always seen myself as a Hammurabi. Wait, is this like a 'Sex and the City' thing? 'You're such a Hammurabi. You're such a Gilgamesh'... Who's the hot one?"
As Flansburgh continued to riff, someone directly behind me threw their bra at him, and it bounced off his guitar. Without missing a beat, he added "I guess I *am* a Gilgamesh." before they finally launched into "Hot Cha" for real.
"Letterbox" was on the setlist for the first set but was skipped. During the first encore, Flansburgh claimed to have forgotten to do it during the first set, but he was "rescuing this show from infamy" by adding it to the encore before someone at TMBW.net got a hold of him. Good save, Mr. Flansburgh. I almost had you.
All in all, a great night with a great mix of songs. This band never lets you down. I'm also set to see the Birmingham stop on March 21st (which is actually local to me - Atlanta is a drive). At the time I'm typing this, it hasn't happened, but I can't wait.

"Integrity plus professionalism equals mistakes. Somehow." - JF
My favorite part of the show was the band being 30 minutes late due to traffic, starting the show by claiming that they're opening for themselves, then scolding the audience for being late. "Not all of you, but some of you!"
