Trivia/Info
- This instrumental version of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" was posted to YouTube on January 29, 2020, after previously being an 2019 Instant Fan Club exclusive. It was created during the production of Flood as a backing track in case the band needed to do a lipsynced performance of the song for television.
- Flansburgh talked about the track's creation in a November 2019 IFC email:
Typically, “television” tracks are created right after the master mix in case there is a need to do a lip sync performance. Here, without the vocals, it is easy to more closely examine the extraordinary performances of Mark Feldman on violin and Charlie Sepulveda on trumpet. As new owners of the delightful Casio FZ1, a versatile sampling keyboard, our sampling experiments were poured into these tracks. Istanbul, save for the accordion, violin, and trumpet, was created entirely from home brewed samples. (Note the marching band bass drum –– fresh off the road –– as well as chords created from blowing on a Fanta bottle, finger cymbals, and clipped guitar as well as background vocals.)
- Contains an alternate, shortened intro.
