- January 15 sees the release of Flood, TMBG's third album, and best selling album. In addition, Flood was their first album to be released after signing to Elektra Records. Flood would later be certified platinum by the RIAA 19 years later.
- Two songs from Flood are made into EPs: Birdhouse In Your Soul and Istanbul (Not Constantinople).
- Promotional singles of Twisting and Your Racist Friend are also released.
- They Might Be Giants appear on Selections from Rubaiyat.
