- January 15 sees the release of Flood, TMBG's third album and their first to be released after signing to Elektra Records. Flood would become their best-selling album, being certified platinum by the RIAA 19 years later.
- Two songs from Flood are made into EPs: Birdhouse In Your Soul and Istanbul (Not Constantinople).
- Promotional singles of Twisting and Your Racist Friend are also released.
- They Might Be Giants appear on Selections from Rubaiyat.
