Talk:ITunes Essentials

From This Might Be A Wiki

Early comments[edit]

This looks like a pretty good compilation to me, but for the price of buying all 3 of them (about $75) one could buy quite a few of the albums that are sampled. They look like pretty well organized playlists though.. -Fwahobadagadz 01:40, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I've been waiting for a TMBG iTunes Essentials! I took a look, and I'd have to admit...it's killer awesome. Really bizarre coincidence that it was released on They Day. - Overjoy 19:50, October 12, 2006

Great list! :) ~Anna Ng hears your words. 21:08, October 13, 2006

I don't know. It's called "Essentials", but the song "Lazyhead and Sleepybones" is track nine (and the first Flansburgh song). It's definitely got the kiddie market in mind (especially disc 2) - is that stuff more profitable than their adult work now? --Metal editor 06:12, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Snubs[edit]

So what do y'all think the most egregious snubs are here? My votes are for I've Got A Match, Older and Man, It's So Loud In Here, and the most shocking omission, Boss of Me, arguably the most recognizable TMBG song to non-fans. And They'll Need A Crane is definitely a basic. --Benthorot 14:36, October 14, 2006

Well, Boss Of Me is only available on the "Album Only" Malcolm In The Middle soundtrack. Older and Man, It's So Loud In Here have not been available anywhere on iTunes since June 11th (Yeah, that's an nice birthday present for Linnell, taking Mink Car out of the iTunes store. Jerks.) It doesn't make sense. And I've Got A Match should have been on the list. I love that song. Everything else is pretty awesome, like I said...but of course, they really needed to add more Flansy songs. Linnell's awesome, but Flans is equally awesome, too. - --Overjoy 23:37, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
If an album was removed from iTunes, it was at the request of the band or label...it's not Apple's decision to suddenly remove an album. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 23:43, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
...What reason would They have for removing Mink Car, though? O_o
As for snubs...well, considering the fact that they DID have some Long Tall Weekend tracks on there, I really think they should've added Reprehensible and MAYBE Certain People I Could Name. Especially the former, though--as Overjoy pointed out, the list is in need of more Flansage. And as long as we're putting State Songs and Mono Puff songs on there, Montana. That was the album's SINGLE, for cryin' out loud!
There are also some songs that are really out-of-place. Bastard Wants To Hit Me should DEFINITELY be under Deep Cuts, whereas many of the Deep Cuts songs are actually intermediate or even basic. So yeah, those are my thoughts. ~Anna Ng hears your words. 00:27, April 6, 2007

Update?[edit]

I noticed this list has a Here Comes Science song in it. Would that indicate that it's been updated lately? Also, how dare they put Puppet Head as a "deep cut". It's an absolute basic. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 14:37, 21 May 2011 (EDT)

So are "They'll Need A Crane" and "Damn Good Times". Meanwhile, "Through Being Cool" and "Hot Dog" are listed as basics? This list is wacky. Who would put Through Being Cool on a mixtape introducing someone to TMBG? --Oddjob 01:00, 22 May 2011 (EDT)

2021[edit]

Looking at the three lists on iTunes in 2021, there are definitely new tracks since the 2006 list (though nothing from after 2016). I don't know if this merits a whole new page, or if this one simply needs to be updated or expanded. Also, not like it really matters, but no new material added from I Like Fun or other stray singles makes me think the folks at Apple aren't paying any more attention, but I'd still like to know precisely when these lists were last updated. Any thoughts from those of you who actually use iTunes? I'm completely outside of the decades-long Apple craze. --MisterMe (talk) 11:03, 13 July 2021 (EDT)
