Talk:TMBG Websites
I don't know if I should be proud or really really sad that I'm the only regular "active" fan site anymore...--Self Called Nowhere 18:53, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know if it's TMBG, or just the whole concept of "fan sites" in general. I think we've kinda proved that a site like a wiki is good, because the fans keep it current, and it's not just run by one individual. The problem with many fansites is that their owners eventually lose interest, and then it sits stagnant. Blogs are fairly easy to keep up though and don't require coding, so i'm kinda disapointed to see giants online fall by the wayside. Oh well. --Duke33 01:09, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yeh, I think you're definitely right as far as things like news and links go, but I still think there's room out there for a good old-fashioned site with, you know, more material than there's really a place for here like old radio interviews that aren't up anywhere anymore, random pictures, thousands of screencaps that nobody cares about etc. (obviously I think so or I wouldn't be doing it!) I miss having a lot of stuff like that to look at. --Self Called Nowhere 09:47, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, I run the "Magnetbox" site and obviously haven't touched it in FOREVER. If anyone is interested is taking it over, taking the content and starting a new site, etc, visit the page, drop me an email, and let me know what you're thinking. I would love to hand this over to someone who would do a good job maintaining it. -- Rachel
I just stumbled across this today: TMBG Windows Start-up Screen Replacement. It's a link to a file that replaces the message on Windows 95 and 98 that says "It is now safe to turn off your computer" with a picture of the Giants (the specific file is at the bottom-right of the page). I just thought I'd ask if this is important enough to place on the Other TMBG Websites page, because Windows 95 and 98 aren't exactly common these days, and I really don't know if anyone will go out of their way to get these. Thanks! --Mosesofthecows 04:36, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

Blogs
Are these really appropriate to be listed here with real sites? I mean, I have a TMBG Tumblr but I don't list it here because I feel like it's too personal, so I just link to it from my user page instead. I know that Hine's blog and the "Giants Online" one (neither of which are active anymore anyway) are here but I feel like, since Hine's actually worked with the band and Giants Online was stuff that was really relevant links to interviews and whatnot, they are in kind of a different category. If we're just going to be listing links to our show reviews and pictures, well, then, my Tumblr and I'm sure things by a good number of other people could all be listed here as well. But I really don't know if that's necessary. Thoughts? --Self Called Nowhere 08:35, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- Why don't you just say what you mean? You don't think my blog belongs on here. I didn't have it listed anywhere but my user page and the recaps on the show pages for a long time and I added it on a whim. I don't really care one way or another. If people object I'll gladly remove it. In response to your argument though, I do post news and interviews and the like. There just haven't been any lately. But honestly, I really don't care. Remove it if it bothers you. --BlueCanary 09:36, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- Right, exactly. BlueCanary, I'm not sure exactly how you interpreted me as not "saying what I mean"--I thought I was pretty damn clear, actually. I didn't mention you by name because I feel like my argument applies to anything of this sort, but sure, I was thinking of yours cos no one else has added theirs here. I feel like any interviews or news of note will show up here eventually anyway at this point (maybe that's why Giants Online isn't being updated anymore), and yeh, looking at it that's not what the vast majority of your blog is. I'm not saying your personal reflections on songs and all aren't interesting, just that it doesn't really qualify as a site in my opinion. And I would take it down but I wanted to see what other people thought cos I'm not sure if everyone is looking at this the same way I do. --Self Called Nowhere 10:06, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- Keep it, or at least make a blog subheading under active sites. In fact here, have mine. I don't think that tumblr is quite the same thing as a site like blogspot, because with all the reblogging going on, most blogstreams end up being half full or more of stuff posted by other people. -TDK 15:49, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, for what it's worth:
- a) my Tumblr at least is certainly not "half or more" reblogs
- b) I would think the idea of linking it here would be mainly for people who aren't even on Tumblr and thus wouldn't be seeing the posts by other people (I have a number of friends who look at mine and no one else's)
- c) even if a percentage (especially if it's small) of the posts are reblogs, what fucking difference does it make?
- --Self Called Nowhere 16:42, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- The difference would be a blog with original material attributed to its owner vs. a compilation of posts from others' blogs. I was referring to tumblr in general, not yours specifically. I don't think that kind of language is called for here on a public discussion page, unless you think that your point won't come across otherwise. In this case it was unnecessary. -TDK 17:23, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, ok, come on, let's not turn this into a useless personal debate. I don't like the idea of having a blog up on the page either, but it's not like it's hurting anyone having these particular ones up. Like Ant said, the main problem is where to draw the line. I think a more appropriate place for your websites would be Fan Communities. Even though that sort of connotes a forum or discussion board, blogs are places where fans come together and are able to interact/share stuff, even if it's a bit more restrictive than say, an actual forum. But, you know, take this with a grain of salt. It's only my opinion. -Apollo (Phoebus!) 18:33, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- Can I make a suggestion? In most other areas of the wiki we seem to keep the official band stuff separate from the fan stuff. For example, the official videos are on a separate page from the fan videos. But on this page the unofficial sites are right there next to the official ones. Why don't we move the Unofficial Sites section over to the page with Fan Communities and re-name it Fan Sites and Communities. That way the page called TMBG Websites is just the band's official sites (with a see also section at the bottom for the Fan Sites page). Then the Fan Sites and Communities page can have different headers for sites, communities and blogs and everybody can list their stuff for people to find, without having to draw any lines between what counts and what doesn't (except that it has to be about TMBG obviously). That way the blogs that are already on this page can be moved into a blog category (and people can add others if they want), the sites can have their own section and something like the Flickr group can move into communities, since that's really what it is anyway. And then anybody interested in looking for any fan maintained content or groups only has to go to one spot to find it. Does that sound reasonable? --BlueCanary 08:25, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, I suppose that sounds reasonable enough so long as there is a differentiation. However, if you want to talk about "not drawing any lines," then to say "oh things on Blogspot are fine but things on Tumblr aren't" certainly sounds like an attempt at line-drawing to me. --Self Called Nowhere 08:32, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Why are you referring to something that I said in a reply to someone else? The discernible difference between blogspot and tumblr is that the latter is a microblogger, and probably belongs in its own category with other mb sites like twitter and friendfeed. -TDK 08:40, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Um, it's called bringing up other relevant earlier parts of the discussion, no matter who they were said by. I'm replying to this new idea but taking in earlier thoughts as well. And what you had said before implied that you didn't think they qualified as anything because of reblogging or whatever. But if they would have an additional category as well that's fine by me. --Self Called Nowhere 09:01, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Um, okay then.. what I meant was, why are you projecting what I said onto her? You can go ahead and say that's not what you were doing, but that is one way to interpret it so let's just leave it at that. I wasn't suggesting that tumblr doesn't quality as "anything", I was saying that it doesn't seem right for it to be listed alongside a blogspotish site. -TDK 09:05, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I wasn't clear. I didn't mean to exclude Tumblr at all. I was assuming Tumblogs would be listed in the blog section. That's what I meant in saying people could add others it they wanted. I assumed you'd want to add yours and that probably a few of the others would end up getting listed too. I should have said that more plainly. --BlueCanary 18:54, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
removing inactive sites
there are a number of sites that i think ought to be removed from these lists because they are not really relevant or useful or cannot be accessed any longer. i thought it would be good to bring it up here first, so here is a neat organised list of the pages i think ought to be removed or have their position otherwise altered (plus: reasons!):
- tmbg's myspace: should be moved down, because it isn't their primary means of communication, likewise, twitter should be moved up (though not to the top)
- dialasong.com: i don't know what to say about this. i guess it should be linked, but it's not a very good site and they don't even use/update it anymore. i think something should be done, but i don't know what.
- theynow: the site is inaccessible! i think this one should be removed completely from the list
- tmbg.meetup.com: this is kind of dumb and useless, as no one really uses it
- hot cha: the book: i don't know what this is doing here. it's fun and all(?) but it isn't really informative or historic.
- malc's they might be giants page: is this just a list of some guy's collection???
- morethings: this is just really confusing and ugly and can't we just link to photos and post reviews on show pages? i'm sure they're already there.
i also am not really sure what the wp page on them is doing there. there are perhaps other changes that ought to be made to this page, as well, but i can't think of them. - Apollo (colloquia!) 23:26, 23 July 2011 (EDT)
- I have no problem with what you've recommended. Let's clean it up! --Duke33 14:25, 24 July 2011 (EDT)
Also...
Should we merge TMBW.Net Communities and Fan Communities with this page? SamuelMan36 14:40, 24 July 2011 (EDT)
- I think it's good to keep them separate. Those two pages are more for interacting with other wikians or fans, respectively, whereas the sites listed on this page are intended for information, news, photos, recordings, etc. Plus, some of the things listed on those two pages aren't actually websites, so they wouldn't really fit on this page. Maybe those two could be merged, though? - Apollo (colloquia!) 14:46, 24 July 2011 (EDT)
- Sure! SamuelMan36 15:16, 24 July 2011 (EDT)
The Face of ParticleMen
Does anyone know whose face is shown on the TMBG ParticleMen YouTube page icon? At first, I thought it was the guy from "Good To Be Alive", but I'm now fairly certain it's not. -Bouncer15111

Question About Official Sites
I have a Tumblr where I post TMBG related things. Would this be considered an official site? If it is, please let me know ASAP :) Bluecanaryalex (talk) 10:39, 28 November 2022 (EST)
- No, an official site would be one run by the band, like TMBG's tumblr: TMBGareOK TitanicFog (talk) 11:24, 29 November 2022 (EST)
Oh, I meant unofficial, lmao Bluecanaryalex (talk) 09:49, 5 December 2022 (EST)
