Talk:I'm A Coward
Pre-release discussion
Uh, is it necessary to have a page with no info whatsoever on it? --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 21:52, 30 July 2014 (EDT)
- No. -OldpineboxTalk 17:50, 4 August 2014 (EDT)
- I agree. There's a section on the Nanobots page that reads, Four announced song titles do not appear in the official tracklisting: "Dawn Divine", "Stalker In Reverse", "Prepare" and "Lucky You". There are no pages for those songs, though the band appears to have recorded them. So I'd say to keep it consistent, this page should be removed until we have confirmation that it will exist somewhere outside the recording studio. --MisterMe (talk) 11:41, 5 August 2014 (EDT)
- IT'S TIME. -OldpineboxTalk 00:53, 6 August 2014 (EDT)
- So...you agree that a page for a song with no information isn't necessary, but a page for an album with no real information is? --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 01:56, 6 August 2014 (EDT)
- Hmmm... I have a feeling there's some more information somewhere... -OldpineboxTalk 12:57, 6 August 2014 (EDT)

Flans Continues with his New Sound
I think it started with Cloisonne but Flans has been striving to broaden his songwriting for a while now. This is not a criticism but a description of continuing to refine the process: when a band has been going as long as this it's difficult to keep fresh and Flans has discussed the difficulty of not repeating one's self and trying to explore new ground. I see him continuing to move away from the chopped riff new wave chops in the next few years.
Unlike with Linnell, you get the impression that Flans really utilises the rest of the band when writing some of his songs and there is some excellent guitar breaks and keyboards that sound like a composite of the Ordinnaires/Tom Waits and Revolver era Beatles with maybe a bit of Zappa and Beefheart. Musically, a lot of thought has gone into both the arrangement and the production which is top notch, if perhaps a tad over-produced.
Lyrically it's so nice to have a song about emotion and feelings uncluttered by abstract metaphor that smothers any meaning and it could be about anyone that gives Flans emotional support. I'm not a fan of the Flans late period ballad (starting with the remake of First Kiss and continuing more recently with Tesla and Sometimes a Lonely Way) as I find them mawkish and middle of the road. However, the left of centre instrumentation really lifts this and it's a solid and interesting song. The nearest thing that it reminds me of is David Bowie's most recent stuff and of the Giants many influences I've never really heard much of Dame Dave's stuff in their work. The result is a likable song. (Mr Tuck)
Dan Miller extraordinaire
Another standout performance on fuzz guitar. --Nehushtan (talk) 00:52, 1 October 2019 (EDT)
