This show was a Led Zeppelin tribute concert titled "The Song Remains Inane". It featured several acts, each covering a different Led Zeppelin song. One of the acts was a trio consisting of John Linnell and Kurt Hoffman on saxophones and J. Otto Seibold on drums.[1][2] They performed "The Ocean", from Led Zeppelin's 1973 album Houses of the Holy.[3] This was the group's only known performance, and it is unknown if they had a name. Hoffman later recorded a studio version of "The Ocean" for his 1993 Hello Recording Club EP, Kurt Hoffman's Band of Weeds.
They Might Be Giants were advertised in contemporary listings for this show,[4][5] but it is unclear whether they performed separately or whether the listings referred to Linnell's trio. If the band did perform, this would be their only known non-radio live appearance in 1991.
Brian Woodbury also performed, accompanied by Jonathan Feinberg, who became the drummer for They Might Be Giants in May 1992. Woodbury introduced Feinberg to Linnell at this show. In a 2022 interview with the Don't Let's Start fan podcast, Feinberg recalled: "When they decided to finally put together a band, Brian, being one of their trusted friends [recommended me]. And maybe because they happened to see me that night and knew that I wasn't useless... for whatever reason, I was one of the three people they called to audition."
