They Might Be Giants
CBGB in New York, NY
November 15, 1989
Fan Recaps and Comments:
This was an unadvertised show. It served as a hometown warm-up gig for the band, who were about to embark on a near-continuous year-long tour in support of the Flood album. The show was mentioned in a December 1990 TMBG newsletter:
Beginning with an unadvertised show at New York City's legendary CBGB's last November 15th and ending last Monday in Osaka, Japan, the band's tour lasted over a year. During that time they performed for over 150,000 people, playing approximately 160 concerts in 28 states, the District of Columbia and 14 foreign countries.
This was the band's first show back after a five month break from live performances, in which time they recorded Flood. It was also their first show in New York since February. The band most likely debuted a set of Flood material at this show, including "Birdhouse In Your Soul", "Particle Man", "Lucky Ball & Chain", "Someone Keeps Moving My Chair", and "Whistling In The Dark". This was also possibly Paul Angelli's first gig with the band, who took over from John Gernand as the band's live sound-man and backing tape operator.
