They Might Be Giants
— with Hal Sirowitz (poet) opening —
Darinka in New York, NY
June 28, 1985 at 12:00 AM

Fan Recaps and Comments:

Both shows were the night before Darinka's raid and subsequent closure on June 29th, 1985. Darinka would later be reopened in 1986 as a private club.

In an interview with the Don't Let's Start fan podcast in 2020, Gary Ray briefly mentioned the shows while talking about the Darinka raid:[1]

If [the NYPD] had come the night before when They Might Be Giants were playing, it would have been an incredible mess, because it was so packed that night. But the night they came there was like, y'know, a couple dozen people doing mushrooms.

In a 2012 interview with Richard Fulco on his RiffRaf blog, poet Hal Sirowitz said, "I was the opening act for They Might Be Giants when they were first starting out at a lower East Side club called Darinka. I remember performing four sets in two nights."
