Honestly, I don't think this song's as bad as people make it out to be. The lyrics are typical of Doughty ("Buddha Rhubarb Butter", some lyrics in "Sugar Free Jazz"). Plus, the music's more on the groove side rather than TMBG's usual structure. It's really a mixing of Doughty's style and TMBG's musical talent, and I, for one, like it. A soild 8 from me. -Ecks
Hm. The version that I heard on Clock Radio is over a minute shorter than the Mink Car version. The songs starts with the first "cafe con pan" (skipping the introductions and bass line) and ends after the second verse. I really cannot stand this song. The lyrics don't mean anything, the music is bland, and the voice is annoying. Then again, all my friends say that the Johns' nasally voices are annoying, so to each their own.--tehbagel 17:57, 5 Apr 2006 (CDT)
This and Yeh Yeh are the most pointless waste of TMBG record ever. Agree or disagree?

- I am actually pretty sure it isn't a teremin at all. At the first of the song, it is pretty clear that it is probably Linnell using his Kaoss Pad and at the end of the song I am reasonably sure that it is the same, just drowned in reverd. It sounds a bit too pitch perfect though, so if anything else it could just be a synth with vibrato and note slide added in, but it is no theremin in my opinion.

They Might Be Giants! Doughty! The Elegant Too!
As a longtime fan of both They Might Be Giants and Soul Coughing (Mike Doughty's former band), I find this song to be one of the most unique things either artist/group created. Sure, the lyrics are goofy to the extreme, but it's really not that far from what Doughty usually spouts off; he even admits as such, saying "My verse is extra spooky." And let's face it, TMBG's lyrics can be downright impenetrable sometimes. With The Elegant Too in the mix, I think the music and sound effects are quite, um, "xciting." I understand why this has a low placement (non-John vocals and bizarre lyrics), but near the bottom? Wow, it surprises me that it's so polarizing.
