Who's singing the doots?[edit]

Since we're all very passionate about this debate it deserves a little discussion on the talk page. Personally I don't see it, but a few fans believe they are hearing Flansburgh performing the scatting "doots" between verses of the song. Anyone want to weigh in with their opinion here? This might be a good question for Flansburgh on Twitter sometime soon. i submote a question on tumblr, but in the meantime if flans pops up on twitter then feel free to ask. i think they're a bit too high to be linnell. and flans does the same sort of vocal in "hello hello", for instance. -Apollo (colloquia!) 00:42, 28 February 2013 (EST)
definitely Linnell Wout 04:55, 28 February 2013 (EST)
I at first just assumed Linnell without listening closely, but it definitely sounds more Flansy in like the actual sound of the voice. ~ veggieman 09:40, 28 February 2013 (EST)

can't escape the flans twang. --ant 14:28, 28 February 2013 (EST)
This can't be! I'm still hearing Linnell. Wout 19:31, 28 February 2013 (EST)

It is Linnell.

It is Linnell, comma, not.
I do think it's Linnell... It's got that weird Linnell vibe... Flans would be twangier... --Jaydn* (talk) 18:48, 1 April 2013 (EDT)
This is no longer being debated--as you can see in the above-posted link, Flans has confirmed it was him. --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 06:42, 2 April 2013 (EDT)

Reminds me of a State Song[edit]

I can't peg exactly why, but this song feels like a State Song to me. When I hear it, I'm taken back to '99 when I listed to that album over and over and over. It's got an Idaho vibe with some West Virginia, perhaps.

Microtones?[edit]

It seems to me, a non-expert, that this song is based on microtonal chords. Can someone who knows chime in? And if so can you add Microtones to the theme section? --Nehushtan (talk) 22:27, 9 February 2020 (EST)

pretty sure that it doesn't use any sort of microtone stuff. Snagwhag (talk) 12:13, 10 February 2020 (EST)
Agreed. --Nehushtan (talk) 23:54, 22 May 2020 (EDT)

Sonics[edit]

The vibraphone adds a special "sonic wonderland" quality to this one. The middle-late section gets loud with clanging that still manages to be very delicate, then the song settles into something like a magic carpet ride, or floating through Lawrence Welk's bubbles. Props to the session guy & production & engineering. --Nehushtan (talk) 00:53, 23 May 2020 (EDT)
