Talk:Renew My Subscription

From This Might Be A Wiki

I'm not sure I got all of the lyrics right. Help me out.

Also, it's interesting that both of Linnell's newest songs, Wearing A Raincoat and Renew My Subscription, mention/are about drugs.

Nice job with the lyrics. Here's what I heard.
1. "Heart-sick" rather than "heart six" in the first stanza
2. "If I would try it, would cure my ills" rather than "...ails" in the fifth stanza
3. In the last stanza, I think it's "Whatever that thing is that makes/The carpet stop turning into snakes," which is just a hilarious image. However, that only works if you pretend that the "-ing" of "turning" is audible, which it isn't.
And about the drug references, in his last e-mail I think Flans said something about the new album being a "psychedelic rock masterpiece".

After repeated listenings, the last stanza decidedly sounds like "The carpet stop turnin' to snakes". While 'turning into' would seem more grammatical, 'turning to' works as well.. and furthermore, it's what's being sung. --Mongoose
I definitely hear "turning into." The "ing" is faint, but there. Mucket 04:17, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

<<<<Also, does anyone else think this song sounds very much like "The World's Address"? Especially during the saxaphone parts. The song also ends the same way, too.

This song's not on The Spine? Where's it gonna end up? I love this song!! - Doctor Masonstein

Perhaps on the simultaneous EP? That's where I'm putting all my eggs. Right there in that basket. BigJohn
You're probably right. They wouldn't just let a song like that go to waste. But, for the EP, I was kind of hoping it would be made up entirely of songs about spines... Like The Spine Surfs Alone (Part 1), only it would have several parts to it. And that would be the EP. Anyway, Renew My Subscription is a good song and I was suprised that it wasn't on The Spine. Yet, somehow, Damn Good Times made it on despite it's shortness. Good song, but a very short one. Maybe they'll add onto it up a bit. - Doctor Masonstein
Since when do TMBG's songs have to meet a length standard? Look at a lot of their older stuff, there's a lot of songs that clock in at about 1:30. I was never really into "Subscription". It seemed like that they were testing the waters for two songs that were thematically related: Renew My Subscription and Wearing A Raincoat. "Raincoat", I always felt, is a much stronger song and I'm glad it won out in a possibly nonexistant contest. - FrankEinstein
"In a special arrangement through iTunes, an exclusive track-a full studio production of "Renew My Subscription" will be available as well." - The latest TMBG newsletter. Yay! - NeuroPod
So this means that the iTunes track is NOT the demo that was previously released through TMBG.com? I ask because apparently they're both the same length (2:17). - Stiddy
Listening to the iTunes version, it sounds like they took the demo and added a fuller-sounding backing to it. The vocals sound identical.

Shouldn't thisbe counted as Track 17 on The Spine? — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 00:59, 21 Mar 2006 (CST)

Yes. -CapitalQtalk ♪ 06:30, 21 Mar 2006 (CST)

Interestingly this is no longer exclusive to the iTunes version of The Spine. It's now included with the version of the album sold on Bandcamp (and likely the version as sold through the band's web store). - Thunderbird 01:22, 20 Nov 2021 (CST)
