Talk:Daily Show Open
From This Might Be A Wiki
Does anybody object to the year being changed to 1998 since that was when this was first on the show and it's just a longer version of Dog On Fire? — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 20:29, 7 August 2015 (EDT)
- This actually isn't "Dog on Fire"--it's a separate song, the "serious news theme." --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 04:27, 8 August 2015 (EDT)

- This is the opening music used on The Daily Show from 2000-2003. The Johns did not do music for The Daily Show until December 1999 when they appeared on the Millennium special and their contributions were limited to that program, and then spring of 2000 when they remade all the music used on the show, which was when this debuted. The opening music was redone again in 2003, which was the version they stuck with until the end. The original Dog On Fire/Daily Show theme, used from the Kilborn years and in Jon's first year, was not performed by TMBG. -- Sonderling (talk) 00:37, 12 August 2015 (EDT)
- So, with that in mind, the year on this should be 2000, and the year on Dog on Fire should be 2003, right?
- The year on this is when it was released officially (as a Dial-A-Song Direct bonus track) and the year on "Dog on Fire," like other covers, is when that song was first written, not when the TMBG version came out. --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 02:56, 12 August 2015 (EDT)
- That thing about covers is only true for the lyrics pages. Check Istanbul (Not Constantinople). It says 1990. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 03:07, 12 August 2015 (EDT)
- Oh, yeh, the lyrics page thing is what I was thinking of and does make sense. But the "Dog on Fire" is still sticking with the rule of being when it was officially released by TMBG though (on a podcast in this case). --Self Called Nowhere (talk) 05:20, 12 August 2015 (EDT)

- Dog On Fire was originally recorded by TMBG in 2000 as a rock version, which as far as I know has not been released by the band. The version on Podcast 47 is the horn version which debuted on TDS January 19, 2004. -- Sonderling (talk) 11:54, 12 August 2015 (EDT)
