Talk:Brontosaurus

From This Might Be A Wiki

This is the song that's stuck with me the most from BOOK after at least 10 listens to the full album since the IFC packages shipped out. Wonderful cryptic lyrics that could literally be about a Brontosaurus but could just as easily be a metaphor for something else. Full band sounds energized and purposeful. Doesn't let up for the whole duration and leaves me wanting to replay it every time. --Yomoneyboat (talk) 12:20, 9 November 2021 (EST)

Agreed--definitely a Linnellian highlight on BOOK. Any song that can rhyme "porous", "ignore us", and "chorus" with its title is pretty nifty in my view. :-) --MisterMe (talk) 13:46, 9 November 2021 (EST)
I really do think that Linnell in this style of song will always rank supreme over Flansburgh, which is why I like him more. This song is most definitely the best off the album. --You&Me!! (talk) 14:56, 13 November 2021 (EST)
I dunno, I feel like this song makes me mad I missed out on getting tickets because I'm never going to hear them live. With all my luck, the IFC will close forever before I'm able to get in, and all the live shows will stop happening after 2022. I dunno, maybe I'll get to see them in concert in 2024. or 2023. This is the worst time to be a tmbg fan for me, having almost no money to spend on trivial pursuits, not even the game trivial pursuit! (yeah I know, this has nothing to do with the song, I just wanted to say, I think I'm never going to accomplish any basic checkmarks on the list of tmbg fan accomplishments, if this song is any indication, they are apparently the bronotosaurus...) --⇂⇂↋ suᴉɥsuǝZ ʎɯɯᴉᒋ (talk) 08:35, 1 December 2021 (EST)
Never give up on your TMBG dreams! While they're certainly in the final phase of their career (thinking realistically), I highly doubt they'll retire from live performance without some kind of final tour (at least around the USA). We haven't seen the last of J&J yet. And while a live TMBG show is truly a wonderful experience, you're no less of a fan for not having seen one. --Yomoneyboat (talk) 08:53, 1 December 2021 (EST)
Right! the final tour may be in 2040, for all the t-shirt has told us. But I still think taking a bit of a break, for like, the holidays might help my sanity. I should be in ceramics class right now! --⇂⇂↋ suᴉɥsuǝZ ʎɯɯᴉᒋ (talk) 08:57, 1 December 2021 (EST)

Live vs. Album version[edit]

One of the things I recall watching them live for the first time was them playing this, and then hearing they'd do it again on Kimmel. I don't ever plan on doing reviews on every song but honestly the way they perform it live blows the album recording out of the water. Maybe it's just my earphones, hearing, or EQ settings on my computer/phone, or even just the track in general, but it's REALLY hard to hear the saxophone in the album version. But with the three-piece horn section? Astonishing.

The performance done on Kimmel is so good. I know they made an alternative version of I Can't Remember The Dream but I also wish they could do the same for Brontosaurus, or at least release a live performance recording. -Charlie5L

I'd love a 30th-anniversary Flood live album with the BOOK arrangements and Join Us, Nanobots, etc. deep cuts thrown in. And yeah, Brontosaurus just has more of that punch to it when done live. -FloridaFlamingoGirl

Highest on the ratings list[edit]

Welp, this is now officially TMBG's best song. The rankings have spoken. --ColorOfInfinity (talk) 14:35, 27 December 2023 (EST)
