They Might Be Giants
— with Salem 66 opening —
Cubby Bear Lounge in Chicago, IL
April 15, 1988 at 10:00 PM

Fan Recaps and Comments:

"They Might Be Giants (John Flansburgh and John Linnell) will play catchy tunes from their 19-song debut LP, 'They Might Be Giants' (Bar/None Records), at 10 tonight at the Cubby Bear Lounge, 1059 W. Addison (327-1662). As true as they are to crunchy pop hooks, their approach can fall too close to a high-octane version of the Residents. Still, no one else is writing ballads about 'the day Marvin Gaye and Phil Ochs got married' and willowy word play such as 'Stand on Your Own Head for a Change.' They Might Be Giants are equally wacky live, employing big-time cue cards for sing-alongs and wearing assorted theatrical masks. Salem 66 will open the show." (Chicago Sun-Times, Apr. 15, 1988)
