Sam Weber

Sam Weber is a Brooklyn-based graphic artist and painter whose series of collages are featured in the artwork for the album Nanobots by They Might Be Giants.

Weber was born in Alaska and got his start attending the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary before doing his graduate studies at The School of Visual Arts in New York. He has worked with various publications including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and DC/Vertigo Comics.[1]

In regards to his style, Weber has stated himself that he has "no idea how to describe it without sounding like a total moron." His works have been described by others as "ominous" with a particular influence from comics and fairy tales. Weber works in mostly physical mediums, with an emphasis on print works.[2]

The collages used for Nanobots in particular are based on various classic paintings, including Ingres's painting of Princess Pauline-Eleonore de Broglie, and were described by Christopher Weingarten as "Max Ernst gone Saw"[3] The Office of Paul Sahre used 7 of these collages while designing the album artwork for Nanobots, alongside its accompanying promotional EP and various singles.[4]
