Interpretations:Slow

From This Might Be A Wiki

A self contained journey[edit]

Slow is a song about me taking a slow potion. It is an incredibly funny and interesting scenario fo imagine and many of the things I realize while under the influence of the potion are important and hilarious. The way it is written paints an extremely vivid picture, it is what it is, it means exactly what it says, the experience of it is what it is. Zacharyaaronriley (talk) 08:47, 11 April 2026 (EDT)

Maybe they're high[edit]

Did John try mushrooms?[edit]

I'm not sure I really think that's the origin of the song as I didn't think JL tends to dabble in mind-altering substances beyond coffee, and that interpretation is too on the nose. But, after a dozen or so trips through The World is to Dig, I'm consistently reminded of my experiences with medium-sized doses of psilocybin when this one comes on.

Immortality[edit]

From rereading the lyrics or perhaps looking into it too much I think this might be a song about immortality. Many people seek this impossible thing without considering how “Slow” everything else gets. How if you rewatch a movie enough times you catch the things you missed the first time and so on.

The more harm humanity does you start to see it all “ The hideous architectural choices of the last 50 years, Have profaned and desecrated this world”. Then by grasping this “antidote” could likely mean seeking to change the world or become ambitious and yet, after so much time everything becomes clear and typical “Hyperaware but unable or unwilling to express”. This character likely does not care or know which it is between unable and unwilling that leads to this apathy. Feeling trapped in the flow of time they/we jump into another eternity of falling yet somehow this is the part that is the slowest perhaps of a life flashing before our eyes to see it all again.

Who knows though? Maybe it is drugs lol
