There was definitely more to the description than this. I remember something about "Circle Gets the Square" being considered early on as a possible band name...I know someone from the newsgroup had the full descriptions up on-line but archive.org doesn't have it. Cave -> 1999

Just noticed JF saying 'alright' in the fade-out of Kings of the Cave, which exactly matches the 'alright' at the start of 1999 / Cowtown (I slowed it down and everything, there's even claps in the exact same places). It also fits with what JL says, when he says "Bill Krauss on reverb" - he's referring to that long reverb tail at the end of Kings of the Cave. There's a very sharp fade out as JF says alright in KOTC, which I think is used to mask the opening claps of 1999 that happen right after. So I reckon it's safe to say that KOTC and 1999 / Cowtown are part of the same show - whether that's the same show as the other 1985 live tracks on here is up for debate. There is that theory, which I kinda believe, that those tracks are from 1985-12-28, which almost certainly rules out 1999 and KOTC. Drum Machines

Saw the trivia added about the drum machines and I thought I'd point out that songs like "Happy" and "1999" seem to use a mix of live drums and the Boss Dr. Rhythm drum machine which was used in songs like the DLS demo and Gettin' Sentimental (recorded 1983). JF said the band in those early years used a mix of the Dr. Rhythm, Micromoog kicks and live drums/custom made sounds. I think it's likely that songs used that live drum accompaniment go as far back as 1983, especially Big Whoredom, which has that Hell Hotel demo bass noise during its fadeout. i like your thinking and i agree, those backing tracks do point to maybe being older than the rest. sally boy vibes. personally tho im wary of relying too too much on drum machines to date stuff. i think its a useful way to sketch out vague blocks of time (like saying something must be after mid-84) but i dont really think you can get more specific than that! --Batwho (talk) 23:44, 25 March 2024 (EDT)
