old dogs in a nursing home
I envision seniors in a nursing home "staring at the door" which is the only exit out of there (death) and regretting mistakes in their lives; in this sense shares a lot with the "Dogs" analogy of the Pink Floyd song of the (almost) same name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Greatquux (talk • contribs) 10:08, January 26, 2018
Divorce
She really sounds like a bitch (*rim shot*). He's inconsolable, not interested in smiling. She won ("victory"), got most of the settlement ("other people's things", specifically his). They both end up miserable & alone, staring at their own separate doors... I sense that he is doing so in grief, and she in anger. --Nehushtan (talk) 01:49, 2 August 2019 (EDT)
- I guess there are two types of door-staring dogs: one that whimpers as it awaits the return of a beloved owner, and one that growls ready to pounce on an intruder. --Nehushtan (talk) 11:34, 17 August 2019 (EDT)
Alzheimer's
After watching the music video and seeing the dog drawings slowly degrade, and with lyrics such as "she's the kind of dog that knows the smell of victory but can't remember what it's called", I get a strong feeling this is about Alzheimer's disease and watching people become a shell of their former self. Not to mention the somewhat uncomfortable microtones lending to a distorted feel.
Having first-hand experience with family members having Alzheimer's, it really hit home with me after seeing the video and I think it's a very beautiful song.
I think it's a song about dogs who are sapient like people, but have personality characteristics and traits that resemble dogs more than people. I don't know about 'staring at the door'.
