Interpretation 1[edit]
I have not heard the song, but by just looking at the lyrics and the title I think it is a joke off The Who's song "Subsitute" and there documentry "The Kids Are Alright" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.129-205-66.ftth.swbr.surewest.net (talk • contribs) 01:57, August 13, 2004
Interpretation 2[edit]
im pretty sure that this song is about a man who wanted to be a substitute teacher when he was a kid because he thought it would be easy. When he became one, he realized it was harder than it looked. He remembers kids being nice in school, but he says "kids are different then 5 years ago" because they have changed.
i dunno just my first impression —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.163.100.72 (talk • contribs) 00:41, March 28, 2005
Interpretation 3[edit]
This ties with "Save Your Life" as my favorite TMBG Battle of the Bands product. But has anyone noticed that if you take out the line "I'm the substitute now", it could easily be a song from the student's point of view? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.232.162.147 (talk • contribs) 14:53, July 30, 2005
Interpretation 4[edit]
I think the song's fairly straight-forward, I just wanted to comment on the fake band name, Spool 409, as being a parody of "Thing-#" bands like Sum 41 or Blink 182 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.244.2.162 (talk • contribs) 13:55, September 28, 2008
