Zithers are stringed instruments often consisting of small strings tied across a sound hole, similar to an acoustic guitar, only without a neck.

Autoharp[edit]

The autoharp is played by pushing down on buttons that correspond to specific chords. Each specific button presses a series of bars individually configured to mute all strings other than those needed for the intended chord.

The Marxophone is similar to the autoharp, only strings are strummed with the left hand, while small metal bars pressed with the right hand control hammers that ring seperate strings, producing a timbre similar to a hammered dulcimer.
