Template talk:Babel:Fan Club
From This Might Be A Wiki
hello, wiki! on a subjective note, i'm not exactly a fan of this box aesthetically but that is not why i came here. this box is kind of exclusive, and it's not in a fun way like the State Songs box, it's in a sort of obnoxious way. not that i think it's necessarily wrong to have a box like this on your own userpage, out of your own accord, but having a template seems sort of unnecessary. it's only a very small percentage of tmbg's fan base that's in the IFC, so this doesn't really apply to most people. it's kind of a bummer! -Apollo (colloquia!) 19:04, 2 November 2011 (EDT)
- I don't think it's so bad. There's probably quite an overlap between the 1000 users who signed up on day #1 and TMBW users. Plus, more people are getting in next year. -CapitalQ ♫ talk ♪ 19:46, 2 November 2011 (EDT)
- That was my thought exactly. If anyone is going to be on the fan club, it's TMBW users. And please change the look if you want; I'm not attached to its looks at the moment. — minrice2099 (talk|contribs|shows) 19:49, 2 November 2011 (EDT)
- i think i agree with apollo here... i kinda feel like it's saying "hey, i had $80-100 to throw at the band!". i know if i wasn't in it i would be pretty unhappy whenever people brought it up. that's my 2¢. -- 19:55, 2 November 2011 (EDT)
- i agree with this! i was about to say nearly the same thing. it's not really sharing personal information or information about what you do on the wiki etc etc, it's just saying that you bought a thing one time. -Apollo (colloquia!) 19:58, 2 November 2011 (EDT)
- Yes, it's quite exclusive (and no, I'm not actually a member), but how is it "showing off" any more than some users' collections or "fan since" boxes? And if you're worried about it being obnoxious, how is allowing users make and display their own any different? Like it or not (and whether you are a member or not), the Fan Club is an official thing created and maintained by They Might Be Giants.
- That being said, I don't really care if this gets deleted or changed. I'm not the type to get into an edit war, especially over something that I have no stake in. — minrice2099 (talk|contribs|shows) 21:29, 2 November 2011 (EDT)
- Going back to the part where CapitalQ said '...more people are getting in next year' is there somewhere with more info on this?? And as a non IFCer, I am somewhat bummed at not being able to have one of these babels. It's kinda different to saying 'fan since' and displaying collections. Other people's collections make me jealous, but they dont make me feel left out. And this kinda does, even though it's unintentional. --Chiasmus 10:01, 3 November 2011 (EDT)
- I'm another non IFCer and I don't see the big deal. It's kind of an obscure thing for the short period of time it was available. I totally wish I was around when Hello was going on, but I think it'd be really cool to see Hello badges if anybody here was actually a member of that one!! Maybe it's different because that was a long time ago rather than ongoing, but I think it's kinda comparable. I dunno. I'm all for celebrating the good fortune of others! -- Stormer 11:27, 3 November 2011 (EDT)
- I have no strong opinions of this one way or the other, but since we have been asked not to share info on the IFC EP and thus can't add it to collections, the babel box could be an alternative way of indicating that you own it. Maybe? --BlueCanary 20:45, 3 November 2011 (EDT)
- well for that purpose i think that counting the digital other thing brass band ep in your collection is a decent enough manner of presenting that you're in the IFC, especially since the cover art we use is the IFC logo. -Apollo (colloquia!) 15:00, 5 November 2011 (EDT)
