John "Abzug" Flansburgh[edit]
Where do you suppose Flans got the nickname Abzug? The first thing I thought of when I heard the word "Abzug" was this song. - Alex "ALXXMaXX" H.
- "Abzug" is a German word -- It means "departure". --Duke33 00:29, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Last names[edit]
Do "Flansburgh" and "Linnell" really count as monikers if they're just their last names? --ColorOfInfinity (talk) 22:22, 29 July 2022 (EDT)
- Yes, because we often call them those in place of their first names. --FloridaFlamingoGirl (talk) 20:07, 29 July 2022 (PST)
Page overhaul[edit]
Considering doing some cleanup on this page--organizing each section by category (nicknames vs. pseudonyms/aliases vs. stage banter epithets vs. famous/common misnomers) and adding more thorough citations. Would try to preserve the silly fun factor, though; I just love the use of pseudonyms and situational names and wish this page was maintained in a way that was more useful. --Bluef00t (talk) 16:04, 1 March 2025 (EST)
- I definitely think we should distinguish between fan monikers and official. TitanicFog (talk) 16:12, 1 March 2025 (EST)
- Took a crack at it! Table of Contents looks a little unwieldy now, and I'm not totally sure about the categories, but it should make significantly more sense. If someone's favorite silly name got cut in the shuffle, feel free to re-add, especially if you have a citation on hand that I failed to track down. --Bluef00t (talk) 21:59, 1 March 2025 (EST)
