Talk:Discography/Singles And EPs

From This Might Be A Wiki

Is there really a single for I'm Impressed? If so, anyone have a scan, or more info, such as a tracklisting? --Duke33 03:21, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Single vs. EP?[edit]

What distinguishes a single from an EP? Like, is Don't Let's Start a single or an EP? --ColorOfInfinity (talk) 20:12, 16 December 2020 (EST)

Bumping my old post (I'm still confused on this)... --ColorOfInfinity (talk) 22:23, 10 July 2022 (EDT)
there's no clearcut answer. a lot of the time it comes down to what the artist calls it. on this site our guideline is usually that an EP has at least 4 different tracks as tmbg intended. i could spend a lot more words explaining our rules of thumb but it wouldn't really be worth it. but if there's a specific release you think is mistagged i'm happy to discuss it. --ant 22:31, 10 July 2022 (EDT)
personally, i define a single as a small collection of songs with the main focus being on one song (ie Don't Let's Start), while an EP is a small collection of songs without a main song focus (ie Indestructible Object). but with this logic raises the question of "is the small collection of songs focused on one song?", which i think comes down to packaging. for instance, while Back to Skull does kinda focus on Snail Shell, nothing art-wise on the packaging really signifies that, so i considering an EP (snail shell also got a promo single but this is just an example). sorry if my long-winded speech was incoherent - fork (talk) 23:11, 10 July 2022 (EDT)
Ok, thanks. My confusion was mostly around the early singles which have "EP" in the page name (including Don't Let's Start, which is stated to be a "maxi-single" in the lead). --ColorOfInfinity (talk) 00:19, 11 July 2022 (EDT)
