Sharon Jones was an American soul and funk musician best known as the lead singer of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. She has been regarded as "one of the greatest purveyors of soul and funk music,"[2] being nominated for a Grammy in 2015 for her album Give The People What They Want.[3] Jones passed away on November 18, 2016 at the age of 60 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.[4]

They Might Be Giants is frequently cited as one of the more notable acts that Jones had collaborated with, alongside the likes of Rufus Wainwright, David Bowie, and Lou Reed.[5] In 2007, They Might Be Giants sampled the track "(Introduction)" off of The Dap-Kings' album Dap Dippin' with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings for the song Withered Hope. Jones would later go on to directly collaborate with TMBG, and by extension The Brothers Chaps, by providing backing vocals for the song Crystal Fortress.[6]
