SOME SONGS TO MIX THINGS UP
Finally, here is a playlist from John F. with a focus on a bit of musical discovery. (I included a TMBG track from the Beast of Horns Sampler because I’ve been told by serious people that "that’s the point,” but I’m just doing this for fun!)
Notably, near the top is a track from the new Geese album everyone is listening to. I became semi-obsessed with the vibes of the Cameron Winter album, so I was super-psyched to hear this new album was coming, and it is quite the payoff.
Also, I became recently aware via TMBGareOK of this amazing quote, which warmed my ice-covered heart…
I could not resist including Pussy Palace from the new Lily Allen album everybody is talking about. Honestly, I’ve always enjoyed her shade of shade, and while truth serum lyrics don’t usually entertain me, the withering candor here is kind of a revelation. I hope she keeps going.
Also in the mix is Robert Palmer. I’ve been digging into his earliest Island albums which are pretty remarkable, spotlighting some New Orleans music royalty with the Meters, Art Neville, and Allen Toussaint all contributing, along with members of Little Feat. Hearing this Lee Dorsey track from the early sixties made over into this steamy, lascivious version is exactly what Palmer’s vibe was about.
There is a relatively recent Paul McCartney song that is quite joyful, followed by a track from back in the day from singer/actor Kenny Lynch, a long-time McCartney pal who actually is in the faux band on the cover of Band on the Run.

And it all raps up with a song from Louie Sings. Love everything about that man.
Hope you enjoy these tracks. I’m going to try to keep the ball rolling in this dept.
We also want to make everyone aware that the TWELFTH anniversary of the They Might Be Playing They Might Be Giants music marathon is happening on Friday, November 14.
