John F. of TMBG with a note about the delay in 8-track deliveries[edit]
Greetings, lovers of unusual objects of the physical world. John F. of They here.
We wanted to give you a status update on the 8-track tape your ordered, lo those many days ago. As you know already, their manufacture is taking longer than expected. To be transparent: all of these tapes are being created from up-cycled materials, with labels applied by hand, and are lovingly recorded in small batches in real time by a man who sounds a bit overwhelmed. While he has said 1/3 of the orders are recorded, he remains silent when it comes to providing a timeline for their final delivery. Our collective hunch is it won’t be before March, but maybe around then, but that is just a hunch from a few dudes who have proven to be overly optimistic on the subject in the recent past.
If you ordered this one-of-a-kind item in a light-hearted moment, and now are feeling less flush or the delay in delivery is bugging you, we will happily refund your money. Simply reach out to idlewild@tmbg.com and we’ll get you sorted. We really do think it will be worth the wait, and aren’t trying to encourage refunds, but it doesn’t feel right to hold on to folks' money for months beyond a reasonable delivery date without this explanation and an easy offer to get off this crazy 8-track trip.
There is one bit of good news we can share –– we know that whenever these tapes arrive they will look amazing. Here are some photos of an actual completed tape and sleeve:
Thank you again for your support of this project we call They Might Be Giants. We are grateful to all of you and appreciate your faith in the band along with your never-ending spirit of adventure.
