Ambiguity of Interpretation

Much of the lyric of the song focuses on different interpretations of an action: was it something you would do for anybody, etc.

Similarly, since the remix begins with the organ part, it sets up an ambiguity in the rhythm and meter. Since the organ is the first thing we hear, the listener is predisposed to mentally place that on beat one, putting the high hat on the offbeat in a skank style rhythm. However, once the remainder of the rhythm enters at 0:17, it becomes clear that the metric roles were reversed. The organ is on the off-beat, and the first high hat at the beginning corresponded to beat two.

This rhythmic/metric ambiguity is absent from the original version of the song, so its presence here helps emphasize the other ambiguities in the lyrics.
