Trivia/Info

  • This version was recorded during sessions with Joe Nicolo of the Butcher Brothers for a new rock album in 1999[1], but was shelved after the sessions collapsed[2]. It is a studio recording of the initial live arrangement, which was described by John Flansburgh as a "slow, hypnotic march" in a 2003 interview[3]. Flansburgh would later mention the Butcher Bros. sessions on Tumblr in 2024[4]: "Those sessions were essentially a demo for his label deal, and when that didn’t come through we motored on."
  • Compared to the faster arrangement recorded for Mink Car, this recording features various lyrical differences. These include:
    • The absence of the lines "I'll talk faster and faster 'till I lose you" and "There'll be nothing to remind you".
    • "Move the needle with my mind" instead of "Move the needle telepathically".
    • The inclusion of the line "Everybody's going to dig me", which was removed for the Mink Car recording.
