This is a cover of The Skatalites recording of the theme song to the 1960's TV series Dr. Kildare.
Flansburgh wrote the lyrics to fit the existing ska tune. Official lyrics exist for the original theme song, but they have no relation to Flansburgh's lyrics.
The song was re-recorded and extended for Unsupervised. Referring to this original version of the song, Flansburgh said, "The melody came from a ska tape I bought without any publishing credit. I recorded a MIDI version of it for the Mono Puff Hello CD Of The Month Club and added the lyrics."^[1]
This ska tape is likely the 1980 compilation More Intensified! Volume 2, Original Ska 1963-67. ^[2] That tape lacks credits, so the music is credited to "Unknown" on the Mono Puff EP.
The Skatalites' original recording was used as intro music at Mono Puff shows at least once.
The song ends with a sample of They Might Be Giants playing Ondine live in 1993.
